Maybe her dad molested her?
I would honestly jump at the chance to own my molester's, um... decorations. You never forget your first time, am I wrong?

Like I said... I found this at a WWII gun show.. I paid $15.. I had too... This womans entire life was in this bag... Her diploma from 1932.. and every teachers contract...
In 1941 an Elementary School teacher was paid $90 per month...
I plane on building a three ring binder for her in order... Unless I can find her family.. But I doubt they want it, because I am sure it was them that sold it all...
I did some research and she is buried outside of Dallas.
Flora Thomas Monnett...

I go to a garage sale near Shanadoah last Friday. I find a bowl of jewelry and search through it.
For 50¢, I find a group of army ribbons and medals. They are all on one rack. They included Vietnam with one cluster, Arcom with cluster, Purple Heart, plus many more I didn’t recognize. Plus there was a Meritorious Unit Commendation with 5 clusters.
I turn and show the lady, making sure she knew these were in there, even though they were in a ziplock, priced 50¢.
She was like, “Yeah, they were my dad’s from when he was in the army.” She didn’t really give too shits about them.
I ask her if she knew what they were and she said no. I explained them to her and said these should not be sold.
I told her I’d take them if she really wanted to sell them, I would honor them.
She decided to keep them (I guess I guilted her into it).
This event has bothered me for four days now. How could someone do this?
I am looking for a purple heart to replace my grandfathers. He was wounded in WWII and got the bronze star and purple heart. He lost his purple heart before coming back to the states. He passed away a few years ago and I will inherit his burial flag from my mom and I want to display his bronze star and purple heart, so if you would like to honor it, I could use it for my grandfather.

Clearly I don’t know anything about the situation but sad he wasn’t trying to make money, it was just a half step above throwing them out. Kind of shouts “is this someone that hurt her badly but she feels some obligation to” which would fit an abusive parent or some similar narrative.

It's sad that you think it calls into question anyone who received a purple heart. It does not. It never has. It's sad too that the fact the men who served alongside him expressed their opinions of him still upsets you.
It doesn't upset me in the least my friend. But it does impugn anyone who has been wounded in the service of their country and received the purple heart because it lowers the standard across the board to suggest someone could be awarded one for a paper cut. There were more people who served with Kerry who unequivocally state that his version of the story is accurate than those who claim it isn't....but that is not the point. The point is that the GOP stated it is possible to receive a purple heart for a paper cut.

They could be extras. I have a box full of extra ribbons, rank insignia, marksmanship badges, etc... from when I was on honor guard and had to wear class a's every day. They really have no sentimental value to me. It's the award orders that I really value.
Beat me to it.

Sell military medals? That’s just weird.

Man this hit me hard. My Dad was Army, Green Beret and only God knows what he suffered for our country. I follow your threads of scores with much interest, just because I love that kinda stuff. I am a "collector" myself and would love to talk shop with you if you have time or interest. twparrott@gmail.com

You should have had the same consideration for the used cup and jock strap you bought.

Idiots walk amongst us. What a huge travesty for her dad’s memory.
