Thought I had all the good ones already on my Roku player for free movies...Pluto, Tubi, Peacock, Crackle, Roku Channel. Like all these apps, lots of crummy movies, but a little research always yields hidden gems. In just a few minutes I quickly found a handful of movies to add to my Plex playlist: Paths of Glory, Eyes Wide Shut, Let the Right One In, Monster's Ball, Man From Earth. Plenty more good ones I ran across also, but had seen relatively recently. Give it a try.

Glad you discovered PLEX, but it has been around for years. Talked about several times here. It's a great way to stream movies from a PC/NAS to a phone or TV anywhere in your house as well.

It's even better once you add your personal libraries to it and stream that media to all the devices in your home. I'm getting rid of all my streaming services and using PLEX shortly. IPTorrents and PLEX are an amazing combo. I have 5 invites for anyone wanting an account.

Not familiar, but are you saying by personal libraries that I can place all the movies I have in playlists on different apps all into one place like Plex?

You have discovered the Plex version of The Roku Channel and the others you listed, but Plex is a full blown media server. Install it on a PC and you can stream movie files to other devices on the network. If you buy the premium version you also get DVR functionality for live local TV if you hook an antenna/tuner up to your PC hosting Plex.

Wait till you create your own library or get a share from someone else with a huge library.

Can someone ELI5 what exactly plex does?

I have a home theater and every single person on Reddit is always going on about plex. Is it basically just a server to store your 4K movies online without any quality loss? I know it’s great for audio in movies. But do you have to own the movies? Is there someway to kinda work in the grey area? Rent from Redbox and put it on plex?

So I subscribe to Criterion Channel and I can let someone else who isn't a subscriber watch my Criterion content? Are all the movies on Criterion a part of "my library?"

Do all of these listed including PLEX, have ads?

Yes, but I can't complain, they're free after all. One thing though that lessens the inconvenience...most of these services will throw several consecutive ads at once, usually at beginning, and then have none or very few ads the remainder. Free Peacock boasts an industry low of 5 minutes or less of ads per hour; contrast that with a typical network tv show or movie that will easily have 20 minutes of ads per hour, like every 6 minutes or so.

Movies you either "pulled down" from a torrent site or even movies you already have on your hard drive. I have movies on mine plus I'll stream gopro vids from it to share. I don't really use the free movies that Plex provides. Say you want to watch Mando s02e01. Go to X torrent site pull it down with a torrent client, copy to your media folder, Plex will index it and the movie/show will be prepared for viewing by the server side. You then load a PLEX client in a firestick/ROKU/phone connect to your PLEX server and it will be there on a menu to watch. About as quick and dirty that I explain. The quality of streams are real good, I'm able to stream over wifi, but going over ethernet is and always will be the best.

Any kind of media that you have can placed on a Plex Media Server and streamed on devices throughout your house. I torrent all kinds of shite and have it on an external hard drive that's connected to my home computer.

Plex scans these directories and organizes the media with the embedded metadata. Sometimes I have to correct it with an accurate poster or something or edit the title a bit, but that's just me being anal.

I have the Plex app on my mobile devices as well so the kids can watch their stuff on road trips.

Also, for the IPT invites, I'll get y'all squared away tonight. First come, first served.

I've got Plex and a decent movie collection but want to add to it.

I've heard people bring up IPTorrents a few times but don't understand it really. It's not just a simple download movie site right? I think I remember something about you needing to let others download your content too?

I’m sure this isn’t actually the case, but am I the only one who read every message in this thread as if it was cut out of a cheesy infomercial?

-“I just found this great new service”
-“Wait, are you telling me I can get great movies on all my device?!”
-“Yep, streaming right to your own home 7 days a week”
-“That sounds too good to be true”
-“You haven’t even heard the best part... it’s FREE!!!”

Lol

And not trying to be a dick or anything. Just that the way the conversation unfolded felt like it couldn’t be scripted more perfectly for a Plex commercial. So I got a good laugh reading the whole thread in the billy mays infomercial voice
