1:40 left in OT and you don’t run the clock down before attempting the FG. Kicking the FG is perfectly fine but he would have given an unnecessary opportunity to Chicago if he missed.

Guys making millions to coach a game have to be better. Inexcusable.

Didn’t want to risk fumble or anything. Kick it, take the W and get out of there

And that’s after he stopped the clock for the Bears right before OT just to complain to the refs.

Just terrible all around

Arizona did the same thing last week, but missed the FG. Luckily for them they got the ball back and won

I'm happy we won but this isn't some new fresh hot take.

he can be incredibly arrogant in situational football.

Anyone saying otherwise is retarded. All you do by kicking right away is give the Bears a shot at the win if you miss.

I was shocked by that, especially when Chi used their final timeout. Take a couple knees, then kick it

He wanted to show Lutz that he had confidence in him.

Worse coaching from Dennis Allen letting his DBs leave the sideline open with 23 seconds left on third and 19 from midfield and no timeouts for the Bears. Give them the middle of the field to the 35 and make them have to run a play no huddle with no timeouts and a running clock.

Payton and Allen are terrible managing a game.

Lutz had missed a chip shot earlier.

Think about the confidence Sean just gave to his kicker. He had zero doubt that Lutz would miss it and basically said, “go win this mother fricker son!”

Sends a mental message to Lutz. We know you will win us games. And the saints will need Lutz to be perfect this year.

Maybe he was thinking if he misses the FG, Chicago gets the ball back. After 2 incompletions and a sack, the Saints get the ball back and a second chance to go downfield to kick a FG.

It wouldn't surprise me if he thought that. He is arrogant.

Agreed. It wasn't very smart.

Forget overtime, the idiot called timeout to yell at the refs because he was hot about the fumble being ruled forward progress. Saved them a timeout and time at the end to kick the field. Otherwise it would have expired and they wouldn't have been in range.

Sean has always been cocky like that, it’s just proven to go his way more than it hasn’t in his career. Really not a big deal with Lutz being our kicker. I would have liked to see them kneel it but oh well
