I truly wanted to be a libertarian, but realism blew that up.
I can't disagree with much of thier views in theory, but in practice I can't see society moving that far towards self independence

What views you don't agree with? Libertarianism is pretty much classical liberalism.
The idea of a candidate winning and instituting a series of policies is a fantasy. The party would be better off sticking to a small set of goals such as returning to Articles of Confederation, legalize alternative currencies, ending the wars (including drugs).

Amash withdrew the day before the delegates chose the candidate. He was expected to receive 85%+.
