Was Pelini more of a Woodward hire or Orgeron hire?

Legitimate question. Don't know the answer.

Woodward and Pelini are old pals according to a 2010 Seattle Times article. This is not new info. Just wondered who was the key guy in pushing for the Pelini hire.

quote:

Washington athletic director Scott Woodward and Nebraska coach Bo Pelini are old friends, both with ties to LSU.

Woodward says he and Pelini talk “fairly frequently,” most recently last month, though the topic of Saturday’s game — scheduled long before either took their current positions — has never come up.

“We’ve avoided it,” Woodward said. “We just talk about other things.”

So . . . you wonder that - after the best season in college fb history - Woodward would stuff a coaching hire down Coach O's throat??

Really? I guess you might think Coach O is a puss and would put up with being treated like that. . . after the season he had just put together?

Uhhh. NO. Coach O hired the guy he wanted. Pure and simple.

Never said that. Just asked who pushed the Pelini hire.

Not even saying it was a bad hire. Pelini may pull the whole thing together. Defending the up-tempo Spread/RPO is a new problem. Pelini certainly has the connections and resources to pull a solution together.

Almost certainly O.

I thought you were going to stop posting here after Burrow left. What happened to that.

100% an O hire and his comments about the hire and reason for that specific hire make it crystal clear.

100%? That seems like an exaggeration.

He picked the guy and stated the reasons why he did. Dunno why this is such a mystery unless you’re just looking to argue for arguments sake.

Not triggered. You just suck. A lot.

Anyway, back on topic. As others have said, O was coming off the best season in LSU football history. That would make the idea that Pelini was pushed on him pretty far-fetched. On top of that, Pelini is an old school guy who fits the mold of what O has long talked about wanting for a defense - attacking at all times, for better or worse. Logic would dictate that this hire was made by O and O alone.

Orgeron hire and an unbelievably stupid decision by Woodward to agree to that contract. Woodward agreed to give Pelini "Aranda" money even though there was ABSOLUTELY NO "Aranda" market for Pelini. Bo makes more than Brent Venables at Clemson!!!

NO ONE was going to pay Pelini what LSU gave him. Not even close! And I think it says a lot about Bo's career aspirations and his demand when he was seemingly more than happy to sit at home in Youngstown (mostly on Nebraska's dime) as the HC of YSU. He had no real desire to work his way back up in the FBS...until along came O and Woodward with an absurd offer Bo simply couldn't refuse.

I was thrilled to see Alleva go. But so far, all Woodward has done essentially pass out blank checks to guys who never would have gotten such at any other school...that includes making Orgeron the second highest paid coach in all of college football. If I ever need to sell something I hope Woodward is an interested buyer. I'll get 500% above market value off of him.

And a long-standing friendship between Woodward and Pelini would suggest otherwise. And that contract is pretty sweet.

But let me repeat, Pelini is a smart guy, and may get the Up Tempo Spread/RPO offenses figured out soon.

We are all aware of the media made-for-talking points on the hire. But, sometimes info from closer to the transaction shows up on TD. Sometimes not.

And if the D struggles all season, many of these same guys will be hanging it all on Orgeron - which is ridiculous considering Woodward's long friendship with Pelini, and Woodward's considerable influence in the program.

Maybe Pelini and Woodward's friendship made the hire easier to facilitate. But this was O's hire. He has the keys to the program. He's not going to be strong armed to make a hire after going 15-0 and winning a national title.

I love that you are preemptively defending O for something that might not even happen though What a loser
