going to asheville next weekend, but want to spend a day and night somewhere close to that area.(within 2 hours drive)

I feel like gatlinburg is too much like branson for us. we want to avoid tourist prices, but want to do some day drinking with nice views.

Any other ideas? Or is gatlinburg the way to go still.

TIA

Might have a hard time finding that right now; I think fall foliage is nearing peak color. The hotel at Little Switzerland, NC would meet those criteria but they are sold out (a friend tried to book a room recently).

There are lots of small towns within two hours of Asheville that are not like Gatlinburg; Boone, Black Mountain, Blowing Rock, Brevard, Cashiers, Highlands, West Jefferson, Hendersonville, Bryson City are all good. Most of those depend on tourist and have some good restaurants. Boone is an exception I guess as that’s where App. State is.

You might find a VRBO at Lake Glenville. My son rented a two BR place on the water there a few years ago. Or the hotel at Lake Lure is nice; that’s where Dirty Dancing was filmed.

The Terrace at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville has some spectacular views, but be prepared for sticker shock when you settle the tab.
