Preach it brother. It's not our fault or the directors fault.

A quick tidbit on the band students getting recruited. Most of us Tigerband memebers chose LSU over all of the other in-state schools(NSU, Tulane, ULM, Tech, ect) and by doing so, myself included, give up a lot of scholarship money to be part of tigerband. We don't do it for the money, we do it because we love LSU. Yes, a new building would be nice but the current members will never see it. LSU honestly doesn't do much band recruiting. They select who they want and that, along with the hard work, makes us the group we are. We will show up to preseason camp trying to earn a spot. Tigerband spots are never given and always earned. To those who support what we do. To those who say dumb stuff about us not needing the essentials that other top band programs have.

Jesus. Some of you people are retarded.

1st of all, it was not any of the band director's choice NOT to play it. They played it for 15 years after moorhouse got there. She didn't all of sudden say "gee, let's get rid of this song."

2nd of all, Moorhouse is one of the reasons the band is so good. That woman has paid her dues. She doesn't put up with shite. If you can't play or march, then your arse will be gone. Just like in FB, if you can't block, run, catch, etc, you don't make the team. She is a hardass, but if you want the best, you have to demand for the fricking best.

3rdly, you made the comment about the band members have more power than they realize. bullshite. The band members can't revolt. The band isn't a goddamn democracy. WE didn't vote on shite, and then tell Moorhouse, "we're playing this or else"

The band has tryouts or "preseason week" a couple of weeks before school. Sometimes over 400 people tryout for it, and they take 325 only, so if someone petitioned to play something, she would replace you easily. Alot of people want to be in the LSU Band. I had a scholly to go to OM, MS State, USM, but i chose to PAY OOS tuition to have the opprotunity to be apart of Tiger Band b/c it's the best fricking band in the land.

See, folks don't realize if they cut you, you gave up a scholly somewhere else on top of getting cut.

This is completely true. If you take away Dr. Moorhouse from the Band Staff, then everything that all you fans have loved for years and years would suddenly stop being what it has always been. She knows the drills backwards and forwards and is really the only reason the band can go perform pre-game in front of 90,000 screaming fans where not a single person on the field can hear a drum beat. As far as bringing back Tiger Rag.... thats the directors covering their own asses. When the Administration tells them that there will be consequences if those songs are played, we really have no choice in the matter. If people don't want those things to dissappear, then the students need to learn to do their "uncensored" chants as a separate entity from the band. Every time a vulgar cheer is started while the band is playing, people assume the band is leading it. And those are the people who here it on national TV.... The money is coming in at a great rate, but the problem with only getting an amount necessary to receive a matching fund is that the state then has the say in the selection of a design and contractor. That amounts to a process that should take 2 years max, not even begin construction until 5 years down the road. That is why the more money we receive now, the sooner things can start to fall into place.

Tell that to all the fans who line up for the band coming down the hill, when they march into the field and hear the 1st 4 notes and countless other moments.

I give a rats arse and it seems like many others do too! Thanks to a great band playing for fans and a great football team and university.

Alright... back to the main topic of conversation:

The band has $10 million to construct the building.

The band is going to continue fundraising because it really wants a $15 million building instead of the $10 million building.

The way they see it... if they're going to do it... they want to do it RIGHT, to where they're not going to need to expand again in 10 years.

Either way, they're getting a new building, which they deserve.

Now... off the main topic and back to a subtopic... you're a damned fool if you think Moorhouse isn't good for LSU. The Band can't do what is does without Moorhouse. If you think the band is better off without her, you're dead wrong.

I think the band deserves a better building, so I donated money. I don't know much about Moorehouse, but I know she hot and the band is GREAT. They don't play certain songs, because the students are immature enough to yell profanity during those songs.

This is a ridiculous statement. Linda Moorhouse may be good, but she ain't THAT good. Pre-Game is not that hard of a drill. It's just one long 8-5 FM, one big RM16 and a few simple R and L FL's. I'm certain Assistant Band Director Roy King also knows the drill backwards and forwards as well as Linda because he's actually marched it on the field in the late 70's/early 80's.(Was in the Drumline with me back then)

BTW, where is Frank? Is he no longer envolved in any of the day to day teaching on the field? I know he's getting up there in age..........

I was a freshman in the band in 93. Linda Moorhouse was away from the band that year finishing her post graduate degree. We have John Laconata (sp.) from Auburn come in and take her place. The marching was sloppy and undisciplined, and the drills were pathetic. Moorhouse is a large reason why the band is as good as it is. When I was there she ran the practices, not Wicks. She also writes all of the drills. Believe me, if she left, you would see a difference in the quality of the band.

I was there as well during this time when Linda was away. The marching and overall discipline of the band suffered for it. I couldn't agree with your more. When Wickes retires or drops dead, whichever comes first, she will take over the band dept.
