Kershaw Sucking in the Postseason Is A Sign of Normalcy

The Cardinal’s wrecked him years ago. The October fear has set in every postseason since for him.

Except he didn't suck last night. Braves got to him in the 6th and then destroyed the bullpen.

4 ER in 5 is miserable and Kershaws postseason MO. Can’t get past the fifth. He’s not a postseason ace. He’s a postseason scrub.

Kershaw was getting hit hard all night. He was not great.

Braves only had 1 run going into the 6th. So he did get through 5.
I am not defending him as a great playoff pitcher. I am just saying he didn't pitch bad last night.

4 ER in 5 innings isn't good at all. I would say that is bad.

In LA's seven trips to the NLCS over Kershaw's 13 seasons, the Dallas native is 3-6 with a 4.84 ERA.

I think calling Kershaw's game "bad" or "poor" is a little unfair. He was very mediocre. Nobody would call a similar outing from a 4/5 guy "bad".

More like Drew Kershaw

But he's a multiple Cy Young award winner and likely 1st ballot HOFer.

I get it, and that's why it's framed like that (in addition to wanting to sell the narrative about him collapsing in the playoffs).
But in a vacuum, it was simply mediocre.

I watched Roberts' post game interview and he said that since Kershaw had a clean 5th, he had no problem running him back out there.
But if you look at the 4th, he had 2 hard hit balls - including Ozuna's 1st HR - and issued a walk. With a guy being scratched a few days earlier and although a great pitcher is aging, Roberts should have had someone ready in the pen in the 6th to put in the instant Kershaw was in trouble.
The RBI double by Freddie should have been the hook for Kershaw.
And Roberts had even more time to get someone up in the pen because of the trainers checking out Acuña the AB before.
Roberts is beginning to look like the Bobby Cox of the 21st century, but without even one ring.

The Dodgers have been choking since they were in Brooklyn, so this isn’t new.

Idiot Bill Plaschke of the LA Times said this after Game 3:
"Can you be trailing two games to one yet actually be leading? Can you clinch a series with a single victory? Can you sweep without sweeping? The answers are as emphatic as a Dodgers offense that set a major-league postseason record with 11 runs in one inning and franchise postseason records with 15 runs and five homers.
Yes, yes and yes.
Just look what comes next. How are the Braves going to survive what comes next?
In Game 4 Thursday night, the Dodgers will start future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw while the Braves will counter with… Bryse Wilson? He’s probably a nice enough kid, but the 22-year-old has pitched in 15 big-league games in three seasons with a career ERA of 5.91."
Afer Game 4:
"Kershaw lost his grip after five strong innings, allowed hits to the first three batters in the sixth, and finished with another fall failure."
