How good was Ali Gaye on Saturday?

Rhetorical question. He was great.
I know the JUCO guys are hit and miss and this was only one game, but that young man is going to have a huge year. Only reason he didn't cause more havoc is because he was getting hooked on every play in the second half. Hard to believe he didn't start his career for a D1 program.
I suspect the coaches knew he was going to be a good one but I'm sure he caught some fans (including myself) by surprise.
I remember Hester doing an interview with Brandon Taylor a few weeks back and he said "If you're a DL in a Bo Pelini defense and you don't make a whole bunch of money when you leave LSU, you did something wrong."

Orgeron said Gaye could end up being a first round pick in the NFL Draft. After entering camp under the radar, he's now on the radar of every opponent LSU faces the rest of the way and every NFL scout who comes to see the Tigers play.
"Hopefully he stays for two years," Orgeron laughed. "Don't get too good."

Monster night for Ali Gaye in his LSU debut:
81.7 grade
90.6 pass rush grade
61 snaps
11 pressures (!)
9 hurries
1 sack
1 QB hit
2 batted balls
3 run stops

He would have been much better if he wasn't held at least 4-5 times.

I was very impressed with BJ on the other side. His lean is incredible. Reminds me of Von Miller. I predict he will be the best pass rusher ever at LSU.

I don’t see a way Gaye comes back next year unless he gets hurt. He’s probably a little raw, but NFL scouts drool over potential like his. To have his motor with his frame is very rare.
Plus he was being held almost nonstop in the second half against state. They had him in a chokehold

I have work friends throughout the south who are football
fans and watched the game. The first LSU player all of them mentioned was Gaye and said the same thing about getting held. Hopefully the rest of the defense steps up

He also looks the part, no doubt. He is only going to get better with more reps and more SEC size for his frame.

Ojulari does have great bend. His measurables are also off the charts. As he gets stronger he will be a force.

he is going to get double teams now so see who else can benefit from this. Logan perhaps or Ika.

There was at least one play where Apu bull-rushed his man back into the QB’s lap.

Yep dude is going to be a force off the edge. He was our highest graded defensive player according to pff with a 87.7 grade. Ojulari will soon surpass Anthony for that other edge spot soon opposite of Gaye it’s just a matter of time.

Bro, I should downvote you... You are underplaying just how many times he was held/tackled. The right tackle glued his fists around gaye all night, probably 20+ blatant holds... he should of had 10 sacks that game...

go ahead and throw a 0 on the back of that 4 and 5

That’s no exaggeration, he was held on nearly every passing down.

When I first saw him, I said "my God, that is what a 4-3 DE is supposed to look like"

Damn Ed I'm pretty sure he has enough people in his ear already telling him to probably leave after this year, don't need the HC to be talking about it either. Him and Ojulari will give teams massive headaches next year if he stays.

There was a series of about six plays where was pretty much tackled and nothing was called. Sucked, but that's life in the SEC
Posted on 10/2/20 at 2:22 pm to sweetwaterbilly
That one tape alone is enough for scouts to start drooling over him

Considering he got tackled every other play....really good. Help me out. Why don't our coaches raise hell when this is going on, even if you get a 15 yd yard penalty, instead of grinning like you like? This should be pointed out to the officials BEFORE kick off tomorrow. I mean, it was brutal how Gaye was held/tackled.
