One of the main reasons that I wished it was President Rand in the WH and not the current guy.

You really need to define what “the war on drugs” is that you want to end?
Complete legalization? Partial? Reduced federal funding? Abolishment of funding? Etc etc
Not being a smart A , to me it can just mean a lot of different things.
Fair questions...
I'd say we're talking about legalizing the injection of any recreational drug into self...at least 18...
Normal protocol of prescribed drugs.
When influence or addiction impacts society...that's when police step in...

Can someone explain what the war on drugs actually is? Is it an actual operation like Enduring Freedom or just some sort of general lumping together of drug enforcement activity across the country? I remember Reagan’s “War on Drugs” but those policy makers and policies have been long gone.
Judging by what I read on these boards, most think Marijuana is the most prevailing drug cops worry about and go after and they couldn’t be more wrong. The rescheduling of Marijuana is always brought up like that’s going to solve anything. The cops weren’t searching for weed in Taylor’s apartment so give that shite up. I actually actually agree with legalization or rescheduling but the potheads level of self importance is pretty hilarious. Nobody gives a frick about y’all in the big picture anymore so chill the frick out. If y’all weren’t such low hanging fruit, you wouldn’t get caught. Cops have to deal with daily, violence, thievery, overdoses and murders surrounding meth, crack, and heroin. The best way to reduce these types of crimes is to make the criminals work in the shadows and always be on edge while arresting them for drug related offenses. As I said in another thread, nobody on the streets talks to the cops when someone is murdered and shite isn’t solved like on CSI. People talking is what solves a vast majority of the crimes and attacking them from the drug angle is the best way to get that done. You can’t “reduce violent crime” without drug enforcement.
ETA: fixed “attacking”

The only thing that most outsiders know about Portugal’s laws is that all drugs for personal use are decriminalized. But what most fail to understand is that all drugs, other than alcohol and tobacco, remain illegal. If police find you with illicit drugs, you’ll be arrested and taken to a police station where the drugs will be weighed. If the amount is above the strictly enforced threshold limits — designed to be a 10-day supply for personal use, or 25 grams of cannabis, five grams of cannabis resin, two grams of cocaine, or one gram each of ecstasy or heroin — you can be charged as a trafficker. If convicted, jail terms range from one year to 14 years.

The WOD mostly benefits the drug cartels, trial lawyers, the prison industry, and employees of the various enforcement agencies.

Tell us more about the social engineering plans you have in other areas. Your implicit assumption is that, not only is government good at spotting problem areas, but it is also good and competent at using the violent force of government in order to manage to the desired outcome.
It’s a balance. I don’t want to have all my personal freedoms taken away, but I don’t think we can ignore society. I’m not talking about spreading the wealth. I’m talking about what ensures our safety, productivity and recognizes unacceptable risks to ourselves or others. Should 10 years old be allowed to drive? Should 6 year olds decide they want sex change operations? Should people be able to drive 100 mph? Should people be allowed to drive with blood alcohol levels of 1.5 as long as they follow traffic rules? Should people have to follow traffic rules?...... aren’t those all restrictions on personal freedom?
Start legalizing everything and you become closer to a third world country. No one wants to work and violence and disorder take over. Go too far and you become a dictatorship.

I've been saying this for 4 years. If Trump would decriminalize/legalize weed, he'd win over a lot of libertarians, moderate leftist people.

Yes. The core pathology at the heart of addiction is biological, and should be the purview of medicine. Decriminalization is a start.

This would be such an easy way for Trump to guarantee re-election. He wouldn’t lose a single voter, not a single one, and pick up a ton.

Ending the War on Drugs would cripple the BLM movement. The less confrontational interactions with the police, the less people will get shot by the police. It's math.

A spike in addiction would imply there's somehow unmet demand, a bit naive of an assumption.
should we talk about temptations?...
if you know you're not going to jail, then a young person is likely, or willing to try more recreational drugs...this is my assumption...
and why I have pause in this whole thing...
Because addictions are extremely problematic... we lose 198 Americans per day to do opioid OD
addictions = you have lost the battle, you are no longer in control of self...
watch the documentary "Seattle is dying"...it's eye opening

No he shouldn't. A nation of drug addicts isn't a strong nation.

The threat of going to jail hasn't curtailed drug use very much through the decades. The amount of cocaine that is produced each year has only increased, with it reaching above 1,000 metric tons in 2004. This is in spite of cocaine being illegal.

releasing everyone in jail for non-violent marijuana possession/distribution is the easiest political and policy win.
I agree but only if they had solely marijuana in their possession - the other stuff is too dangerous to legalize and there needs to be prescription drug reform as well
Drugs are dangerous - I’ve known of two people in the last two months that have overdosed - both leaving small children behind
It has to be overdoses have skyrocketed - I haven’t looked it up - but I grew up in places where drug cultures were out of control but i find people are dropping like flies more now than ever

During an opioid epidemic. Yeah, good messaging

I quite enjoy mushrooms and acid. I don't use them like I did when I was younger. Two or three times a year is very refreshing. A field trip to the frontal lobes is always nice.
