What about my freedom? I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself from Chi-com snooping. I don't need the government doing it for me.

I assumed way back in 2000 when the Patriot Act was enacted that everything I post online will be collected by "someone"
I further assumed it when "Net Neutrality" was eliminated
I live a basic white guy life... good luck on finding anything that compromises national security

If a company is a certain percent owned by China, they are considered by the CCP as a Chinese busiest and have to do whatever they say. This is why Trump is making them sell a portion to a US company

nobody cares about data collection from social apps period? Or no one cares that TikTok is collecting data and allowing CCP access to said data ?

Shares data with Communist rulers of China. Owner has partnered with communist govt to hire a bunch of Party members at corporate offices in Beijing and share info after being threatened with a shut down by Communists.
Also has been known to remove/censure pro Hong Kong posts and anti Chinese govt postings.

So they are censoring freedom of speech like facebook and twitter?

Yeah I don't get it either. You are kidding yourself if facebook, twitter and the rest aren't handing your data over to China

What exactly is on TikTok that a non-teen would be interested in?
Had a coworker my age today say how great it was. I was kind of shocked.
I thought it was lip synching to bad music and shitty teen videos. What could an adult actually watch that would be interesting?

There's a lot of content for the 30-40 crowd
Aside from the hot 30-40 yo women, I enjoy the cop/FD videos, pilot videos, comedy, lots of "confessions of a...." type of stuff
Cool sports videos, history vids
The content is pretty great

It's algorithm tailors the videos to what you like. Once you've dialed in the content, you never get that trash
I've identified a number of new camping sites and vacation destinations via TikTok
Some of the more eye opening stuff happens when you follow a stripper who then gives you all of her war stories from the club.
TikTok is digressing into one giant ad for OnlyFans though...

It’s a known fact the CCP had the right to demand TikTok to share any data with them at any time they requested. Said data includes things that are very private and personal like passwords, text message conversations and even something benign as your recent clipboards. Basically they could use tiktok to spy on everyone and collect info that could be used to influence or harm, but they denied it the entire time even after it was investigated and proven true.

I feel old ha. The camping stuff is kinda interesting but I don't really like watching videos that much.
I still prefer to read, which is why I like forums like this.
OnlyFans is just cam sluts right?

It's a cesspool of women who happily accept money from SIMPy sorry excuses of men
I saw one video on TikTok that made me SMH
An OT 4 posted how she had initially freaked out when she drove her car into a post. But then calmed down because she knew she had an OnlyFans account. She posted her "ordeal" there and the repair bill was paid for her.
The power of the SIMP is strong in this country
Before you ask: SIMP.... Sucker Idolizing Mediocre P*$$Y

This is election year propaganda at the finest.
Look, every app you put on your phone collects data and sells it to nefarious groups. If this one app is shut down, whatever, the Chi-coms will get your information another way.
The fact that this is some unheard of national security risk is absurd. Be careful (and tell your kids to be careful) with what you post online and what you save on your phone.

all of the above?
and obviously "nobody" is hyperbole, but most people, and certainly not our government, cares about apps collecting data
they only care about other governments getting said data and not them

It smacks of the Homeland Color code threat matrix in the early 00's... Ineffectual and serves merely as a "reminder" that we need protection from the federal government

Election year propaganda for who? If Trump can force ByteDance's hand to sell TikTok(US), I wouldn't call that propaganda.
The real prize is the algorithm, which ByteDance is refusing (under orders of the CCP) to sell. That's what Microsoft and other tech companies want. They want to take the algorithm, bring it up to US security standards, and profit.
