Watch the game where Joe Montana gets taken out in a playoff game against the Giants.

Watch Stabler getting his helmet ripped off and his neck collared as he's taken to the ground by the Steelers...and no penalty called.

Hell watch any poor sap QB in the 70's...who went to crap teams and got destroyed. What everyone is talking about is just regular football but today it's...he's taking hard hits because we're so used to the new rules where you can't touch a QB that a sack is now egregious.

Or another playoff game where Jim McMahon gets literally picked up and body slammed like it's the WWE...on his head...5 seconds after he released the ball.

And tell me how tough players have it today.

I agree QBs have it easier now with less hard hits, but I think it’s a net good thing, because they might still have functioning brains and bodies when they leave the NFL.

There are points on both sides. The rules were absurd back in the day, but the players were smaller and less honed. Today, the rules are better, but the average player is a monster. Joe Burrow could have played on the o-line in 1965 for chrissake.

I think it's a great thing that the zeitgeist (and rules) now prevents a complete unloading on essentially defenseless players.

You don't have to keep referencing games from 50 years ago, the NFL is a completely different league.

We get it, NFL quarterbacks took hard hits back in the day. That doesn't mean it's easier for Burrow in 2020

Smartest thing the NFL ever did was to start limiting the thug hits intended to hurt talented players that make the game fun to watch.
