He definitely would have been better off pulling an Eli. Trevor Lawrence should do the same thing, otherwise he’s probably gonna get Gase’d.

Might end up like David R Klingler

I agree QBs have it easier now with less hard hits, but I think it’s a net good thing, because they might still have functioning brains and bodies when they leave the NFL.

Eli wasnt operating under the current rookie contract rules
I am not sure what exactly you think Joe could have done but sit out for years while not getting paid.
Why do you think this doesnt work anymore?

Joe is going to put in his 4 or 5 years in Cincy and then force his way into an organization that's worth a shite.

quote:There are points on both sides. The rules were absurd back in the day, but the players were smaller and less honed. Today, the rules are better, but the average player is a monster. Joe Burrow could have played on the o-line in 1965 for chrissake.
Watch the game where Joe Montana gets taken out in a playoff game against the Giants.
Watch Stabler getting his helmet ripped off and his neck collared as he's taken to the ground by the Steelers...and no penalty called.
Hell watch any poor sap QB in the 70's...who went to crap teams and got destroyed. What everyone is talking about is just regular football but today it's...he's taking hard hits because we're so used to the new rules where you can't touch a QB that a sack is now egregious.
Or another playoff game where Jim McMahon gets literally picked up and body slammed like it's the WWE...on his head...5 seconds after he released the ball.
And tell me how tough players have it today.
I think it's a great thing that the zeitgeist (and rules) now prevents a complete unloading on essentially defenseless players.

Luckily for Joe, he’s the toughest QB mentally to come out in years.

I always said Joe should have pulled an Eli. Sure he would have gotten trashed in the short term but it would have been largely forgotten in a few years.
2 and 3 were Washington and Detroit both of which would’ve been better fits.

Joe Burrow is screwed.
It's funny how everybody applauded his unwillingness to play hardball for an Eli type of draft day trade. Why, again, would it have been bad for him to have done so?
Because Joe isn’t a baby back bitch who banks on his D-line and a no-name wide receiver to make a one in a million play.

Look I'm not saying he wasn't getting tackled but acting like QBs in today's game get killed? C'mon.
The expectation of what is acceptable for a hit on the QB in today's game has become so soft and we all know that.
It's almost like a sin to hit the QB.
That's football, he's not wearing a red jersey, if he can't take it like his predecessors took it worse or fans can't take it then football is lost...NFL scouts used to test the fortitude of QBs before they drafted them because they knew they would take a beating.
Then rules changed and you couldn't touch the QB. Now it's just about passing skill and not the whole man.

If I’m cincy I’ve seen enough to bench Joe the rest of the season and get him some help. Take a year off. Run triple option the rest of the year

You don't have to keep referencing games from 50 years ago, the NFL is a completely different league.
We get it, NFL quarterbacks took hard hits back in the day. That doesn't mean it's easier for Burrow in 2020

Hopefully they can get the #1 pick again and trade down to build up both lines.

You actually think the Bengals will put effort into building a team? Puff puff pass

Trash arse UF, Bama, tOSU lineman blocking for him.
LSU has what, 3 offensive linemen that start in the league?
If any of the rest of them were better than the guys from UF, OSU, Bama then they would be starting in their place.
The Bama guy for all intents and purposes is a rookie that's lined up against Melvin Ingram, Joey Bosa, and Myles Garrett in his two career starts. He's played 160 offensive snaps, has 1 penalty, and has given up 0 sacks.
Leave it to an LSU fan to blame everyone but the LSU alum though

Smartest thing the NFL ever did was to start limiting the thug hits intended to hurt talented players that make the game fun to watch.
