Russell should wake up every morning and thank Les for moving him to WR. That move gave him a chance to play in the NFL
Shep couldn’t have made it to the NFL as an all-purpose type player (WR, scat back, read option qb)?

GOAT high school highlight video

I loved Shep and glad he had a long NFL career. I dont understand why everyone is saying Les underused him. Shep was coming off of a great sophomore campaign and was ready to shine....but then Odell and Jarvis arrived on campus. Les/offensive staff made the right call.

Not a ton of those type of players that hang around long at all without doing the dirty work on special teams and blocking
Two skills he wouldn’t have developed if we tried to force him at QB.
He was never going to be a QB no matter where he signed.

good thing les moved him to receiver to allow him to have a long career.

He still would have been blocking. I don’t see how running a few plays out of the wildcat every week would have hurt his ability to play special teams.

So les ruined his career because he never ran him in wildcat?
He couldn’t throw he didn’t even have the best arm of the WR room during his time here

This.
Also in 2011 he had Rueban Randle in front of him too.

Where did I suggest having him drop back and try to pick apart a defense? Run him mostly and when the commit to hard to the run, drop an easy pass to a wide open receiver.

So again we’re talking about 3-5 wildcat plays at most during a game Which we were notoriously awful at
It wouldn’t have made a substantial difference in his career. We certainly needed more offensive creativity during that time but to act like a couple of basic wild cat plays for shep would’ve unlocked our offense is silly
And if you’re gonna run those plays, run them with Odell, who is faster stronger and has one hell of an arm

Les not playing him actually worked out perfectly for his nfl career. He came out of LSU knowing how to block and do dirty work. He basically did that his whole in the league.

Les actually put him in the Wildcat in his freshman year.

Shepard’s full potential was never at QB
We certainly left a lot of the field in terms of getting creative getting him the ball during his time here, but him taking QB snaps is not the best version of his career or something that would’ve changed his career in any meaningful way.

Had a more than decent career in the NFL with how he was wasted at LSU.
7 seasons, 87 games played, 60 receptions, 847 yards, 6 TD's, 45 tackles, 2 forced fumbles
These are his NFL stats but he was wasted at LSU? So the majority of the Rant thinks these stats warrant the guy getting more time than Rueben Randle, OBJ, and Jarvis Landry. Les did a lot of dumb things but Shepard's position change and usage was not one of them.

O needs to get him in with the program somehow. Russell Shepard got fricking robbed by Les and you have never heard him complain once. Spotless record after 7 years in the league with no scandals or anything other than a history of good character and hard work.

Eh idk if he ever really had a position.
He was fast and athletic but not a great WR and not big enough to Be a RB.
Apparently he couldn’t throw.
I am Glad he had this great career in the pros but idk what we could have done with him at LSU
Besides run a frick ton of jet sweeps. Shepard would have beeb drafted in the first three rounds if he played for Canada.
He should have gone to Oregon in hindsight. Shepard in Chip Kelly's offense would have been lethal.
But, great for him, maybe the best attitude for a player I've ever seen. Always positive. Always a great ambassador for the school. Always a leader. Couldn't ask for more from him.

Of the opportunity to play receiver in an offense that would showcase his abilities? The dude went undrafted. That was a huge miss and it should not have been that way for him.

One of my favorite recruits. Les shorted him.
