Giving running backs huge contracts in the NFL is dumb. Been proven time and time again.

Meh. 1) I don’t think this is a “huge contract” with only $36 million being guaranteed. 2) More importantly, he’s not your typical running back. He’s a great receiver too. And not like Fournette who just catches behind the LOS dump offs, AK motions out and actually runs routes. 3) He’s valuable beyond his mere raw production numbers as well. His simply being on the field and having to be accounted for opens up a lot of other guys.

I think his averages are gonna improve significantly over last year when he was hurt, but his raw production might actually go down as other new weapons’ might go up. But that will actually prove his overall value.

Cj is not replacing Marcus Williams
2 different positions
I do believe it probably means rankins is gone if he has another year with 8 sacks

The over emotional Nancy's never look at the guaranteed money.
Sign AK to a 150 mil contract but if it's only 34 mil guaranteed over 5 years it's still a good contract for the team.

$34mm is still pretty high for a RB. CMC got $38mm. Cook only got $28mm and a 5 year/$63 million deal. I am a bit surprised AK41 got so much more than Cook.

paying a running back

He may be a running back but he has also been our second best receiving threat since he was drafted.

Don't disagree it's more than I thought.

But if it's AK from two years ago for the next 5 years it will be a great deal in the end.

Your right except for the fact that tax payer dollars go to fund the saints and keep them in the dome in that shithole city.

Love the downvotes. Total denial of taxpayers giving $$ to corporate welfare socialists billionaires.

Just some quick evidence of why paying running backs a substantial amount has not resulted in winning Super Bowls. Regardless of his ability to catch, kamara is not worth the amount we paid for him

We are 37-11 since we drafted Kamara and have been SB contenders every year. Just some quick evidence of his importance huh?

There is no direct blueprint to winning a super bowl or else everyone would do it. Imagine using the patriots as an example - yeah you don’t need a good RB, you Only need the best QB and HC of all time

How about just building the best team you can

Cook has only played in 29 games over 3 years. That’s why he cost less.

This still isn't quite true. Anytime they finished outside top 10 in defense they didn't win (or for that matter make outside of once or twice) the SB.

We won with a HB who was a prolific pass catcher and a very opportune defense, along with a HoF QB and 2nd best coach in the league.

We still have at least 3 of those things this year.

Yeah as good as Cook has shown he can be, he has a worse injury track record and not quite as prolific a pass catcher as Kamara (but still damn good).

Agreed, though those of us not condemning this deal realize AK’s more than just “a RB.”

quote:

CMC got $38mm

Right. And he’s coming off one of the greatest seasons by a RB ever. And all his production got the Panthers was a 5-11 record after losing 8 straight to end the season. AK’s value to the Saints’ offense and overall team is more than mere raw numbers. It’s unquantifiable.

To play devil’s advocate, though, because of how he’s used, AK is more valuable to the Saints than he would be another team. Other teams wouldn’t be able to use his presence on the field to help their overall offense the way the Saints can. So that would theoretically lessen his leverage, allowing the Saints to sign him for less than they did. But it’s all about the cap, so if Loomis was able to make it work cap wise while also making AK the “highest paid RB” in football, then winners all around. And to address a point others have mentioned, like Thomas before him, Kamara has done absolutely nothing to indicate he won’t play hard after getting paid. In fact, I think quite the opposite.

I don't understand anyone coming from a shite hole parish always dumping on the city of NOLA. This is the 21st century now not the 20th where those kind of statements were made regularly, and it wasn't alright back then. People that live in the state should be trying to rejuvenate and revitalize the city which has been through so much. Not continue to tear it down with empty negative statements based off close-minded people, stereotypical racist views, political views and other BS.

Kamara got paid though, good for him, I hope he lives up to it.
