Man I’ve been thinking that all day. I’ve driven around a bit and the number and types of trees down, in the ways they are down, makes me think this was stronger than first measured or stated. I’ve seen legit tornado alleys through parts of Daphne and loxley

From the City of Orange Beach
Hurricane Sally Update – 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020
At approximately 4:45 a.m. this morning Hurricane Sally made landfall in Gulf Shores as a Category 2 Storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The storm created extremely dangerous and life-threatening conditions.
Bridges remain closed to non-residents. Residents living or working in Orange Beach can pass with proof of residency, re-entry decals or work identification or paystub of local employer. Residents are encouraged to have proper Orange Beach identification such as driver’s license.
Curfew remains in effect nightly until further notice from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. This curfew is to better protect and secure residences and get vehicles off the roads while power is not available. Stay off the roads and be at your destination before dark as downed power lines, potential gas leaks, and debris on roads exist.
Tourists and non-residents can depart the city at any time by following
Perdido Beach Boulevard to Hwy. 161 to Canal Road west to the Beach
Express Toll Bridge route only. No sightseeing while driving out for the safety of all.
Baldwin EMC is working to restore electricity as quickly as possible but transmission lines are in need of repair.
Orange Beach Fire Department Station 1 and Station 2 will provide basic medical triage aid, 24/7, until Monday September 21, as other local clinics are not at full capacity.
The city is working to establish a POD (Point Of Distribution) site for commodities such as tarps, water, ice, etc., which will be located at the campus of the Recreation Center in coming days. Thank you for your patience.
Residents are encouraged to sort your piles into appropriate types such as vegetative, construction & demolition (C&D), white goods (appliances and furniture), hazardous (paint/chemicals/poisons) piled at the edge of the property along the streetside.
Property owners are encouraged to ask for proof of an Orange Beach business license from contractors seeking to do repairs or work on private property. Do not allow smooth talking unknown contractors to do work unless you know they are legitimate or reputable. Avoid paying any cash up front also.
The city’s prepositioned contractor Crowder Gulf will begin clearing roads and right of ways on Thursday along with city crews. Please watch for heavy equipment and give plenty of room.
In the event of emergency, dial 9-1-1.
Now, this is what city leadership is supposed to look like. Lots of direction and details to the citizens and visitors and a pre-existing plan in place and being executed. Well done.

The water on the beach side is still over the roads and lower level parking lots. Why would you try to travel there right now?
No it’s not. Maybe a handful of places.
Destin isn’t bad at all outside of power outages. Which are more than sparse. When it gets back on, our economy depends on tourism. Without it there’s no money. That’s the reason I encourage visitors. The next week or so is supposed to be very nice.

You are correct. My apologize. I did think you referring to 98.

It’s not but is in a handful of places?

Again, tomorrow probably isn’t the best day to travel to destin for vacation.

Nah. Just because a storm wasn’t ‘intense’ doesn’t mean it didn’t do damage. Time means a lot also.
The amount of rain saturated the ground and structure and that gives the wind a lot easier job.
People can say this was ‘predicted’ and yes a slow storm is right, no one predicted 21-30” of rain in 24 hours.

That makes sense. I don’t like basing a hurricane off of strictly wind speed anyway. But man, I saw some incredible sights today.

You are right. Out of 365 days it’s not the best.
It’s certainly doable. I’m saying dissuading them as long as they know the conditions and are smart doesn’t make sense either.
The only real issue is some spotty flooding which is easily avoidable and power outages which likely will mostly be fixed by tomorrow.
You may not understand, but the Destin economy is ONLY based on tourism. Without it there’s no money. If you want to financially recover, you need income. That was my point.
And yes, weather the next week looks fantastic. No reason someone can’t have a great vacation here.

We are headed to Miramar in the morning. Pulling my trailer loaded with a couple pallets of water and non perishables. Is there a church between Pensacola and Destin that someone could put me in touch with?

Gulf Shores / Orange Beach, Alabama needs help. I encourage Gulf Shores Methodist Church if you decide to help there. Otherwise, I’m sure there are plenty of churches that way. Good for you for helping! God bless!

I know what you mean
The Safir Simpson scale does not take into consideration factors like the speed of movement or amount of rain or tornado impact.
Some cat 1’s have more tornado activity than cat 2 or 3. Some cat 3 move in and out real fast and do less damage than a 1 that sits a long time or rains a lot it sits and rains!
It’s time for a new scale!

If only the BLM anarchists would take the Christian approach like this fine gentleman is doing, the world would be a better place.
The Deep South continues to have the best values of anywhere in the world.

There’s a bunch of Georgia Co Ops in lake Charles. I’m wondering if they will divert manpower to Bama/Florida
