September 4, 2020 - A day which should live in infamy

Today the United States surpassed Sweden in COVID deaths per million.
Authoritarians have spent the last four months pontificating about the failure of the Swedish model (treating citizens like adults lol?).
Authoritarians, your plate of crow has arrived.
Land of the mask mandates vs land of active discouraging of wearing masks
Land of the stay-at-home orders vs land of treating citizens like adults
Which is the land of the free, again?
But Ronaldo, the Swedish government actually did a lot more than people say they did.
Sweden did 3 things:
- Restricted gatherings of 50+ (they are removing this restriction as we speak)
- Briefly shutdown high schools (they are back)
- Briefly shutdown universities (they are back).
- ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS NEVER CLOSED. BUSINESSES WERE NOT FORCED TO SHUTDOWN.
But Ronaldo, the Swedish actually did a better job than us of socially distancing.
But Ronaldo, Sweden actually wore masks better than us.
But Ronaldo, you can't compare the US to Sweden.
Okay how about a state with similar population density? Shutdown and mask happy Illinois vs Sweden? This data a month behind - Illinois is closing in on 700 deaths per million, Sweden has stayed flat.
But Ronaldo, what about Denmark and Norway?
And? What about Peru? The military-enforced, strictest, and earliest mask and lockdown mandates in the world. Highest deaths per capita in the world.
Almost like masks and stay-at-home orders make little to no difference. Also noteworthy, neither Denmark or Norway have or had mask mandates. FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
But Ronaldo, the Swedish economy isn't doing any better than its neighbors?
Still too early to determine the long term effects of everyone's lockdown. We will have to wait and see (you know, like how you should have waited on pontificating about the Swedish failure lol)
Also, who gives a shite? I don't care about GDP. The government of Sweden did not treat its citizens like cattle.

You put a lot of time into this post.

50% of our country is obese so it’s pointless to compare to anyone else.
Maybe if some of YOU, the OT, could put down the fork we wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Can you provide sources for the graphs? Not doubting you, just want to send to other people.

Nice work, Ronaldo

But Ronaldo, the Swedish don't have as many comorbidities as Americans!*
*I don't know (or really care) if this is true or not.

Reminds me that the PuttaDaForkDown thread is now in its 3rd volume on the Health and Fitness Board.
It’s been going 10 years and 1435 pages.

I still think that its insane how so many people think that you are some kind of monster for even suggesting that it was dumb to shut everything down like we did. What the frick is wrong with people?

Could we at least end this masquerade now?

Thanks, Chicken.
The entire post was written just so I could post the government gas can regulation meme. fricking hate buying new gas cans. Finding an older one at a garage sale is as joyful as finding the holy grail.

I can put the fork down just fine. It’s those miller lites that’s keeping me round.

the approach doesn't seem to matter. We have ruined a lot of lives by allowing emotional reactionaries to set policy.
