I would love nothing more than to be able to keep my house higher than 70 during the day if it was cool. Currently any temp above 70, and it's very uncomfortable.
Find a way to accurately measure the humidity levels in your house. This is an absolute must to have in order to improve home comfort and efficiency.

Yes, sounds as though you could very well have a high humidity issue. You need to know what the humidity inside you house is. These meters are inexpensive and accurate and can be calibrated. I have a couple. LINK, based on the recommendation of HVAC Techs on a HVAC forum. If your HVAC can’t maintain a RH of near 50% by mid afternoon in this heat something is amiss.

...if one room gets hot consider blackout curtains or reflective tint on the window (foil works too if you’re trashy and DGAF).
I went with this option 5-6yrs ago in my master. It’s on the south side of the house with 3 south facing windows. It always seemed to be 5° hotter than the rest of the house. Once I put the film on the windows and blacked out my screens, it helped out tremendously! So if you have many south facing windows, this could be a potential fix.

I installed an attic gable fan in my single story ranch. My attic temps dropped 15-20 degrees and the AC no longer runs all day on the hottest couple of months. House was built in 1974 with shitty windows and about 8" of blown insulation in the attic.

Have you had someone check the return and return ducting to unit for proper sizing? I was about to replace my AC unit this past spring when I finally called a small business owner AC company. He came out and found issues none of the other 10 did. Long story short, I now have the proper return air flow and it’s like a whole new AC unit.

Since ductwork leakage isn’t an issue, here is my advice.
The seals on your windows have failed. Assuming you have GBG’s (grill between glass) this would be my first step, since it needs to be done anyway. I would recommend Andersen Replacement low E 336 windows but advise to do your due diligence.
If that doesn’t work, adding the radiant barrier sheathing to roof is about as cheap and easy of an effective product you can add to your home.
Next thing I would do if this doesn’t work is rent an insulation blower and tackle attic. Also inexpensive.

ruger35, you located Baton Rouge? You mind sharing the name of this small HVAC company you used? Looking for a HVAC company that has a diagnostic mentality when it comes to identifying and resolving HVAC issues.
