My grandfather was like this. Said he never had a bank account, credit card, etc. Would cash his paychecks and keep it all in a safe. Said he didnt trust banks to hold his money... dont ask why.
I'm sure there's people out there like this but paying bills must be a pain in the arse in todays technology controlled economy

Buying property must have been fun for him.

Quite a few people, actually.
None of them ever bought property. Any property they had was either rented or had been inherited without ever going through a succession.

My paw paw died a multi millionaire and had no credit score. He had never borrowed a dollar in his life. He had to pay a deposit to turn on his cable service when he finally got it

Why didn’t he trust the bank?

I used to be like this to a degree because I sold pot in college, but now in my late 20s I always feel bad using cash in most places because it makes me feel like I’m poor.... like just swipe my plastic card and let me go along with my goods and services, thank you.

Those children of the Great Depression looked at things a lot differently.

Yeah. They’re called drug dealers

Hey now, don't forget the whores and strippers.

I'm sure he has, but I've never seen my wife's stepdad use anything but cash. He just carries around what we call his "pimp roll" of 20's and 100's.

My Grandfather did it. Depression era folks. I had an Uncle drop dead in his watermelon patch. He had over $1500 in his overalls.

Old enough to remember the Depression?

A lot of older people who grew up during the depression didn’t trust banks and would stockpile cash.

My paw paw used to show me all of the places he had cash hidden in his house in case he dropped dead suddenly. He made me remember them all.

My uncle always used cash and paid all bills by a check in the mail, up until his death in 2017.

Cash is King. I had a buddy whose family was into book making as a profession and almost everything was done on cash basis. Everything except the house that was in grandma's name.
