Smith is fine but I don't know about Hart in this role.

I'm assuming Hart plays the agent of chaos (the John Candy) role, and I can see him going way too over the top.

Smith is fine as the straight man who loses it.

I'm trying to think of a black actor who can play the wholesome, but kind of a sleezeball (who we ultimately find out is hiding something) role.

Maybe it's me, but this seems like the kind of movie that loses a ton of it's appeal in the modern world. Internet, cell phones, etc. all take away a lot of the situational comedy that the original had.

It actually genius. Announce a remake with black actors, then a slew of white people will state the original was one of the great cinematic works of art. Great way to get publicity.

I’m assuming they’ll have issues with airbnb, uber, and maybe even those bird scooters. Money issues could maybe be a stolen identity forcing a freeze of all accounts and cancellation of all cards? But even that feels navigable now. So gotta assume that the biggest points of conflict in this will be in dealing with the people who operate the rental services/accommodations/transportation that they use after a flight is canceled.

Or maybe they go extra modern and it’s a corona-like pandemic that forces all of the airlines down. Then they’re left to traverse the country in a time when everyone is shut in, ceasing services, and keeping distant from strangers. Miniature bank runs could overload the bank’s digital platforms and prevent any withdrawals for the few days of their journey. No hotels or airbnbs are operating so they have to camp with only enough equipment for one. But they eventually bump into a backwoods town of conspiracy theorists who think the pandemic is part of a global plot to get them over the last hurdle in their journey. Presumedly just before that entire town gets Covid given the current hollywood climate. But it could potentially work. That could be the last shot of the movie; smith and hart just got home, have their loving family moment, sit down for turkey and click on the tv to see a news story about an outbreak overrunning that entire town. They look to each other with shock and the screen cuts to black. Roll credits. Just spitballing.
