If the presidents of the universities are the ones pushing for the cancellation of football due to the their liability concerns, just have the players and parents signed a waiver stating the university is not held accountable. Problem solved. Play ball!

Good idea, I'm sure that hasn't been thought of before.

Liability waivers are generally not worth the paper they are printed on, hence the concern.

I want to say that was floating around a few weeks ago and there was push back by some players....maybe I'm remembering it wrong. But with the prospect of actually losing a season, players are probably having second thoughts.

Najee Harris tweeted he would sign one.

Put all of the legal mumbo jumbo in it and then let the parents and players make the decision

And if the player decides that they want to opt out of the season then let it be their decision. Next man up

I keep hearing this whole liability discussion, but I have not seen anyone explain how ANY entity has any liability for someone catching a virus.

People are working, going to school, going to restaurants, etc. I have not missed a day of work.

Students are reporting to schools all over the country.

I don't know of any other student or employee that has had to sign a waiver. Why would football players?

Are there some stats that say they are more likely to get sick? According to the stats coming out, they are testing positive at rates well below the national averages.

If most of the other major schools/conferences cancel, then arguably a sort of "standard of care" has been set. Any school that doesn't meet that standard could be opening themselves up to liability. Maybe not scientific or fair, but a fact of modern life. Same thing happening to organizations and businesses in other sectors. Lawyers will be advising their clients the prudent thing to do is take the same precautions (i.e., shut down).

You are forgetting, this is Louisiana / America, anyone can sue anyone regardless of the facts. In case of a trial, guess who would make up the jury?

It's completely illogical. There is no way to prove where you got a virus, or that a job or school caused you to get it, or even increased your chances.

Public schools are closing in many districts across the country, but not in other districts.

Are you suggesting these schools now have liability? I have heard of no school requiring a waiver for students or employees.

Lets get Trump to issue an Executive Order, granting universities a waiver of livability.

I am pretty sure all athletes already sign some sort of liability waiver. If they didn’t couldn’t every player that tears an ACL sure the school they play for?

There needs to be a nationwide waiver of liability for all entities.

Especially in Louisiana. One of only a few states where they are unenforceable.

Waivers for personal injury due to negligence are not valid in Louisiana. So problem is not solved absent action by the legislature to alter to current law.

Liability of catastrophic injury, including death, is assumed every year by these universities. It's why you have insurance. Does this science say that we would lose more kids to Covid than neck injury/heart failure/or heat related
death? This is a brutal game and the assumption of serious injury and/or death is made by players/admins every year.
