Sounds like the whole government is resigning.

Protests had gotten pretty bad and, honestly, would YOU want to clean up the mess from that blast?

It's a great thing for the people. They've been hanging on by a thread for a year now.
Good for the people of Lebanon. Hopefully they can rebuild their shattered (and corrupt) government now the way it should be.

While I actually hope for this, I highly doubt it will be replaced by anything any better and they actually could get worse than what they had...

For those asking, this is expected to be the entire government.

that's a common thing with parliamentary systems. i'm presuming that's what Lebanon has (on paper at least)

Some insane group will almost certainly fill the vacuum. Israel better make sure the iron dome is functioning properly.

I actually like the parliamentary style of govt better than ours for several reasons, this is one.

In a parliamentary government? Yes.
PM and all ministers resign and new elections are held.

happens all the time. it's a way for new elections
usually it's after a vote of no confidence or to head off a vote of no confidence

yeah i think a big issue that is foreign to Americans is that most of these systems don't have set elections
governments call for new elections when they think they can strike while the iron is hot and get stronger (remember when Theresa May did this and lost seats? all but sealing her fate as PM)
governments also will resign when they're faced with a scandal to allow for new elections. it's tradition around a scandal

This is usually were the political extremes come to power. Far right or far left.
I expect an Erdogan type dictatorship soon

Kinda, with some automatic representation from religions based on percentages... It is a "hybrid" system at best and they really have not followed their rules for elections... Also, the minority party gets a veto...

Hopefully, much more Maronite, and far less Hezbollah.
Posted on 8/10/20 at 10:06 am to TheRoarRestoredInBR
Hezbollah will now be the entire government. Super duper...
