I’m considering everything from going back to school and getting a trade degree (I&E, HVAC, etc.)

That's my plan if I get laid off. Work in a plant as a mechanic right now. We had a layoff a couple weeks ago and I had just enough seniority to keep my job. If I end up getting cut, I'm going to try to get into the electrician or HVAC fields.

A/C units will never go away and in South Louisiana, you'll always be needed.

First of all, good luck and God bless to all of you who have lost your jobs. The stress must be terrible, especially with a child on the way.

There are two places very few look or are considering right now:

1) USAJOBS has every government job out there.

2) The military. With a degree you will come in as an E-4 and make $2,262/month plus medical, housing, and food. They will train you in whatever you want to come in as, i.e. a new trade you can use in a few years when you get out. BTW, the medical field has great training.

Again, good luck.

*raises hand* Lost my job is sales/advertising. Currently working two jobs I’m over qualified for. I work in a call center and deliver pizzas. Gonna stick this out for a little bit and really focus in on a career change and finding something more fulfilling. I’m making enough to get by in the mean time until a new opportunity comes about.

I was out for 4 months. Found a job last week. Less money than my last position but more than the new unemployment

I got laid off from O&G in Feb. Was about to get hired on to a new job and shut downs hit. No hiring local for several months. Built my network up and put my name out there. As someone said before, I wake up every morning looking for jobs and filling out applications. I've had several good interviews, upwards of a dozen phone interviews and about 40ish applications. Not willing to relocate makes it more challenging.

Seems no one is in a hurry.

Just need to stick with it and have faith. It's probably the most stressful thing I've been through. Trying to keep my head up and not have the family worry. Always been frugal and have money for a situation like this but when you see all the money get sucked up it hurts.
Next for me is selling the boat, which is paid for, to give me a few more months to work with.

1)Fed work is good if you can get it.

2)He already has a degree, he should go to OCS and come out as an O-1 rather than BCT and become an E-4 (although IIRC a B.S. will land him as a E-5, not E-4, at least in the Army). There's a wide array of enlistment bonuses atm.

Graduated in 2013 and at this point I don’t feel like I could even go back to doing anything related to that degree.
There’s some programs man that in 12-15 months you can get your BSN.

Work as an RN for a couple of years making 60-70k then become a NP or any other speacialty field and make 100+

If you're in Harrison County, Ms has some good tech schools. PRCC, MGCCC, etc.

Yeah, I live about a mile away from MGCCC's main campus.

Tate Reeves signed the reskillMS program, but after looking that over, all the benefits are contingent upon a company hiring an unskilled worker and paying for their training, then having the refund go back to the company.

I don't want to wait for a company to hire me. Tell me what programs and jobs are most needed, let me choose from those, let me pay for that program myself, and when I'm done, reimburse me. Let me find an employer when I'm trained and ready to work.

My son was let go in late March when their largest client canceled all contracts due to Covid-19. He got a job a month later for 20% more.

I don't recommend losing your job due to this shite but, if you do, it's not the end of the world.

Got laid off in March, Pipe Designer. Apparently, we’re feeding off the government and lazy assholes.
