Funny to look back and see how Jordan Jefferson performed that night as a True Freshmen in a Bowl Game start and the future potential he had. I remember him performing well overall in that game. Re-watching it this morning I didn't realize that he started off that game completing his first 10 passes! Not saying Jefferson was anything terrible but looking back at this game makes me wonder how he never flourished into a better player over the next 3 years. He never really got any better. Obviously Les miles and our lackluster passing attack probably contributed to that. It was a fun game to look back on. I just remember watching that New Years Eve and thinking. Damn, this kid is only a freshmen. He's gonna be damn good hahaha.

I think I remember Charles Scott having a game that day. weren’t we up 35-3 at half? pure domination and many said we’d lose going into that one

JJ got worse under miles.

freshman year was his best arguably from an ability standpoint.

Our offense under Miles for the most part prevented a QBs ability to develop. You put JJ in Urban Meyer system and he’d be a winner.

Miles destroyed QBs while at LSU.

Harris showed promise as a true freshman too, Jennings was going to win 6 Heisman trophies after Arkansas. Then Les ruined every ounce of confidence they had.

Miles virtually eliminated the crossing routes after Jarrett Lee's interception and pick 6 fest in 2008 as a freshman. After that he only relaxed it some for Mettenberger and relied upon ball control and defense to in. With limited passing options the quarterbacks never fully developed their games.

That game was Herbie’s “lock” of the bowl season. Said we could stop GT option attack.

That was the most excited I had ever been for JJ.

My takeaway from that game was that announcer Paul McGuire, drunk as hell, doing color from a chair lift on the sideline. He kept me in stitches all night.

I remember wondering, especially after this performance, why LSU could never start freshman QBs as Les insisted earlier in the year "he wasn't ready" repeatedly. We'd see other programs have outstanding play from a FR QB to start the season, but not Les, he had to get 'em ready. I agree with your post, that did seem to be the peak of his LSU career performance wise, then 3 more years of Les getting him ready.

What I remember is that he was really impressive in the first half ... something like 11/12 for 130 yards and a TD ... then in the second half, he was embarrassing ... it was more like 5/13 for 20 yards.

It was actually pretty symbolic of his career.

Jefferson also had a fantastic bowl game against A&M after his horrible 2010 season.

I think part of it was him but a lot of it was the offense. They never built it around his strengths. If he played in a Dan Mullen type of offense, I think he would have had really good stats.

Etling would have been a good fit for the 2019 offense. I think he would be All SEC with that kind of attack.
