What is happening in the U.S. is NOTHING like what happened in Yugoslavia.
Anyone who thinks it is is an idiot.

Yet.
Long-standing bullshite finally simmered over after decades of being held back. When things went, it went bad quick and ugly.

I think the PT should watch the video and make up their own minds. That includes LSURussian so he can comment AFTER watching it.

Could actually live in Croatia, Serbia, or Slovenia if SreallyHTF here. They're pretty homogenous with the exception of any middle eastern muslim refugee mongrels who have shown up there. Bled, Slovenia is the most beautiful place I've ever seen.

Yugoslavia was made up of Slovenes, Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks. Slovenes and Croats are by and large Roman Catholic, Serbs are Eastern Orthodox and Bosniaks are Muslims. These sectarian tensions were kept in check by the strongman rule of Josip Tito until his death in 1980.

It's more akin to early to mid 1930s Germany. Mobs roaming the streets, beating innocents and using fear to try and influence politics. Gov and media pushing racist propaganda. Encouraging violence to stifle wrongthinkers.
Idk about the corporations of Germany during that time. They shouldn't have been as oppressive as the corporations we have now.

Obviously you can't compare now to what happened in Yugoslavia at the end ......BUT compare what you see here versus what you saw in Yugoslavia in 1990-1992....there are similarities.

quote:And that period of relative peace was very brief and was in place simply because all of the religious groups were equally afraid of Tito's secret police. Tito was ethnic Croatian and raised a Catholic but when he joined the Communist Party he renounced religion and became a devout atheist.
These sectarian tensions were kept in check by the strongman rule of Josip Tito until his death in 1980.
His principle for maintaining peace was "If you make trouble I'll kill you." It worked until after his death and the breakup of the Soviet Union.
The religious fighting there went back to before Columbus ever sailed to the New World the first time. And they've been hating and fighting each other there ever since.

Well said by the young woman.
I have heard the same warning from several other former residents of that area. We should pay close attention to her warning.

Things got really heated around the time of the Ottoman-Hapsburg wars in the early 1500's.
My mom's family is from what used to be called the Croatian Military Frontier, today it's Northern / Central Croatia. A lot of the people living in that area that became Croatia were ethnic Serbs that had been granted land by the Hapsburg Empire if they were if they agreed to align themselves with the empire. In their opinion, that granted land was now an extension of Serbia. You can imagine the fun border disputes that went on for the next, oh, 500 years.
The place has been a shite show for over 1000 years. The history of that area is so complex and borders so disputed, it's hard to even scratch the surface of the history. You have to understand that a lot of the area was still considered "frontier" up until WW2 and there were still unsettled and disputed land. The communists put an end to the disputes when they took the land. Once they crumbled all of the, quite literally 1000 year old disputes flared up again.
Are some of the conditions present here, that took place in the 90's? Sure. But keep in mind the Balkans have been a much bigger mess, for a much longer time.

So, just frick the Kosovar Albanians, right? Neither "Southern" nor "Slavic" and stuck right in the middle of the "Land of the Southern Slavs."
