Mogwai - I’m Jim Morrison, I’m Dead / Spotify

Explosions in the Sky - The Birth and Death of Day / Spotify

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - East Hastings / Spotify

God is an Astronaut - Forever Lost / Spotify

Post songs in this genre in this thread if you like, I’ll probably add links sometimes.

You guys have pretty much covered all of the GOATS for the genre, so I’ll add in a few other bands. Tarentel & Mono are more in line with the original idea of this thread, while the others approach post-rock from a different angle. I’ve aways been fairly mediocre at trying to fit certain bands to genres.

Balmorhea - on the weight of night

Tarentel - for Carl Sagan

Earth - old black

Mono - the flames beyond the cold mountain

Tortoise - glass museum

Tristeza - building peaks

Rachel’s - water from the same source

Mogwai -Christmas Steps
Giants - Sleeping False Idol

A few years ago a local college radio station had a weekly post-rock hour, I loved it.

Listening to Godspeed was life changing for me. I got into older post-rock like Tortoise, and even stuff like Slint. Seen a bunch of bands live, from EITS to Caspian to Godspeed to Do Make Say Think to Mogwai.

I'm working on an album, or rather, I've been sitting on an album of "Post-Rock" tracks, for lack of a better word, since 2018. I need to get them mixed and mastered, or scratch them altogether.

Here are some of my favorite tracks
Hammock - The Air Between Us

Caspian - Moksha

A Silver Mt. Zion - 13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round Your Bed

Do Make Say Think - Fredercia

The Abbasi Brothers - The Social Evening (in 1992).

Great thread.

This Will Destroy You - S/T

Nearly a perfect album.

Mighty Rio is probably one of my favorites of all-time.

I never could really figure out what Tortoise was, but was introduced to TNT in high school during a particularly long smoke out and it blew my mind. We turned the lights out in my buddy's basement and laid there and listened to the entire album straight through without saying a word. It was incredible and I've been a fan of theirs from that day.

I'm glad I found this thread to find some other bands in the genre. Thanks guys.

EitS is godly. The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place is a fricking masterpiece. That whole album is just one big existential experience. I love it.

Went and saw Maserati in Houston. They are very very good live. Was a shame their drummer died.

Maserati - Monoliths
