Gov. Whitmer threatens to shut down auto plants if citizens don't comply with her rules

....and in the process, Governor half-whit actually pissed off Big Auto, the UAW, and citizens tied to Michigan's largest industry all at once.
The plants that build pickup trucks in particular are working overtime to meet demand. They simply can't keep up with consumer demands after having to shut down for 8 weeks.

General Motors’ Flint Assembly plant is running full-on as its 5,000 hourly workers push to meet pent-up demand for the heavy-duty Silverado and Sierra pickups GM builds there.
The plant, along with all of the Detroit Three's U.S. factories, sat idle for about eight weeks this spring as the coronavirus pandemic surged, putting production behind.
So Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's warning this week that she could shut down auto factories in Michigan once again if residents don’t obey her order to wear masks to slow the spread of COVID-19 has sent the auto industry into a tailspin.
“There’s a future at risk. This is our future," said Eric Welter, UAW Local 598 shop chairman who represents the workers at Flint Assembly. "There is market demand right now. People want our product and if we don’t deliver that product, that’s our job security. So we have to push on, do it safely, but product demand is job security.”
On Thursday, the group representing Michigan's auto industry sent a pleading letter to Whitmer noting that "no major COVID cases are tied to any Michigan auto facility," crediting that to safety protocols in the plants.
"On behalf of Michigan’s automotive leaders, I urge you to resist the closure of our manufacturing facilities and allow these demonstrated safety protocols to continue working to keep our businesses open," wrote Glenn Stevens, executive director, MICHauto, an economic development initiative of the Detroit Regional Chamber, dedicated to the Michigan automotive industry.
The Detroit Three and the UAW devised the safety protocols during the factory shutdown period from late March to mid-May. During that time, 25 union members across Ford Motor, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Aramark died of COVID-19 complications. But since restarting the plants with the safety processes, there have been no coronavirus-related deaths, the UAW said.
But if the governor closes auto plants in Michigan, the ripple effect on the tens of thousands of jobs connected to those plants, such as at auto parts suppliers and car dealerships — even in other states — could be economically devastating.
Still, the governor did not mince words during a news conference in Lansing Wednesday, saying: “If Michiganders don’t mask up when we go out in public, cases could rise and we could be forced to close down more of our businesses, including auto manufacturing plants that employ thousands. A second wave of this virus could be absolutely devastating.”

She sounds crazy and like a dictator.

My favorite part is that anyone that protests Whitmer's draconian far-left fascism is guilty of spreading the virus.
But BLM protests and Antifa Riots are all okay.

This is the critical flaw. Their fricking plans were so haphazard that they committed an egregious error. If she moves to shut down the auto plants again, I guarantee it'll get ugly in Michigan because these people damn well know by now this is all bullshite. You cannot reasonably justify actually joining the protestors in the streets just a couple of weeks ago and then reversing course again to put thousands of people out of work for a second time.
This would be just an enormous error on her part. The people are gonna get sick of this shite and then we are gonna have a real problem on our hands.

And yet the UAW has endorsed both Whitmer and Biden and also given millions to their campaigns.

Hard to disagree with this sentiment.
Then move over to Congress.

It speaks wonderfully of the economy and security of the free people of the United States that not a single one of these wannabe Napoleons has been murdered yet.
We have fewer people "with nothing to lose" than I imagined back in February/March. I was honestly worried that this would foment actual domestic terrorism with lasting damage within months. I'm happy to be wrong (so far).

Trump has to go.
At all cost and by any means necessary.
Everyone with a brain knows this half wit is going to shut Michigan down again.
At the first sign of cool weather it's going to be a new wave! Viral loads increasing as the weather cools.

This is awesome. She is making Michigan red by the day.

They should protest by rallying at the production plants, like 5000 or so should gather along the assembly lines.

But her approval rating is in the 60s

Michigan is ripe for the picking. Trump needs to stay on the facts and not get into a name calling showdown with Biden. Biden has nothing to run on

I'm sorry, but I hope she does shut down the auto plants. It would give Trump a clear contrast to show the people of Michigan what voting blue does for them. I really believe it would tip the scale in Trump's favor in November in Michigan again.
