People should wear masks for the economy.

The markets like it when you wear masks. I don't get the opposition in retrospect back when I was in Japan in 1984 people wore masks when they felt they might have a contagious cold and it was the law. It works.
After returning I felt the scroungy American hygiene was outdated. Wash your hands a dozen times a day and after going to the bathroom.
If everyone participated this thing would diminish rather quickly.

lots of educated people on here would rather associate themselves with the lowest level of Walmart shoppers than engage in self responsibility

If old fatties wouldn't be out and about at the grocery store, restaurants, playing golf, etc. then maybe they wouldn't be in as much danger of catching the virus in the first place.
Self responsibility is what most people on this board want. frick government mandates.

Based on what empirical evidence that it actually reduces infections?

California is still waiting on the benefits of wearing masks. Once it’s proven to work in California, I’ll start wearing one.
If, instead, the numbers in California follow the trend line of every state, I’ll assume the mask is window dressing.

If the mask works, and you wear one, you are protected right? Then why do I have to wear one? Don’t worry about me. If I want “protection” I’ll put one on.

My freedoms are more important then your stupid virus conspiracy theories.

Mandatory exercise period 5 days a week for all US Citizens.....
Outlaw all dangerous activities such as hiking, biking and camping.....
Limit all married couples to 1 child.....
These are all RESPONSIBLE things to do for the health, welfare and safety of Society.

clearly they don't and that was a myth
just like how this board pushed for governmental fiscal responsibility from 2008-2016 and now it's an afterthought

Prove to me that masks work, take the warning label off the N-95 box (the one that says they don't work), have a definitive time frame for the end of mask wearing.
See people fell for the "do something it is an emergency" line and allowed a shut down ruin an economy that was running along great - like the greatest ever for all walks of life. We were told it was what was needed to "flatten the curve" and make sure "hospitals were not over whelmed" only to watch a certain group of people of a certain political persuasion gather in the streets and burn cities down with impunity all the while we were being told to "do our part to stop the spread". Then we when cases started increasing (case count is somewhat a function of testing) and hospitals started filling up a little we were told it has "nothing to do with the protest". See, many people in the US live by the ol' adage - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me and we are not going to be fooled again.
So get a complete consensus from the medical community and get back to us.

Perhaps they feel that the “Walmart shoppers” will dick shite up making the efforts of the rest pointless.
It is tantamount to replacing Drew Brees with “Uncle Rico” and expecting the rest of the team to win the super bowl in spite of the obvious shortcomings.
Walmart dregs are our “Uncle Rico.”
Your masks and self-responsibility won’t overcome their stupidity.
My take, we should protect the vulnerable as best as can be done and get on with life.

Dude...masks mandates work so well, that they go back in time by over a week to prevent infections.
Take CT for example. Mask mandate went into effect 4/21, and hospitalizations peaked on 4/22...that means the mask mandate started reducing infections 7-10 days before it was even put into place! (Based on the lag between infection, symptoms, and hospitalization.)
What more proof do you need?

The virus sensed that masks were coming and moved onto more fertile areas. This virus is a smart little fella.
