If we are going to do an official AR thread, id love to see what guys have in the way of AK's. What they recommend, and what deals are out there.
I currently dont have one, but I shot a friends so i have been looking for the right deal.

There really aren’t any deals on AKs anymore. The ones I would recommend are:
WASR-10. Usually go for $700+ these days when available
The new Zastava Zpap with bulged trunion & chrome lined barrel, usually around $850 when you can find them right now.
WBP Fox from Atlantic Firearms. Probably the highest quality option available on the market right now, usually cost around $1,000 and Atlantic has been having a hard time keeping them in stock.
Palmetto State armory is the most cost effective but is US made which means there is basically no collectibility like there is with import AKs. However they are the most cost effective. I believe they start around $600ish and can go up to nearly $1k if you get the AK-E model with all the options.

Don't waste your money. Get an AR chambered in 7.62x39 if you want to shoot cheaper ammo.

Throw both in the mud/water and see which one will shoot the most rounds after.

It seems like everyone is sold out.

I have an allied armament. No longer in business but they would assemble parts kits on nodak receivers. I have a polish underfolder on a nodak receiver. Works well and great quality. If I had to buy a production ak today, it would be an Arsenal

Had a slr-104fr. Never really put it through it’s paces, but it held its own accuracy wise Against my AR’s. Only issue I’ve read about with factory arsenals is that the paint will bubble when it gets hot. Purely cosmetic, but on a 1k plus AK that shouldn’t happen.

I have an Arsenal SLR-95 and a wasr-10 underfolder. Both very reliable but no comparison quality wise. The milled receiver arsenal with chrome lined barrel is a fine weapon. Paid under $400 for the arsenal back in 98.... I would like to add another to the collection but can’t ever seem to find one in stock that has wood furniture

What’s your opinion on milled vs stamped?

These days I’d recommend sbr’ing or bracing a draco. Cool thing about the draco is since it’s a pistol you get none of that 922r mess. So that means factory trigger etc. all from the get go. Add to that the 7.62x39 does very well out of a short barrel, it makes for a lotta bang in a small package. Haven’t checked in a while but I do believe Atlantic and other big name sellers still get them in inventory from time to time.

Milled is heavier while stamped is lighter. There won't really be a functional difference. Once could argue that milled is more accurate because of less flex and milled guns aren't riveted but there are certainly stamped guns that can outshoot milled. It's an individual gun thing.

The problem with AKs nowadays with the barrel ban, parts kits either dried up or went through the roof. The 94 ban and 98 LCMM executive order and barrel ban just make the selection of foreign AKs too expensive.
But there sure is something about them and I still hold out they US companies can make correct clones and magazines. Keep an eye out on Kalashnikov USA bringing an AK103 magazine clone to market. I really wish they would get 5.45 and 5.56 magazines too.
Having said all that we still can get some Yugos, Polish and Romanians in. Aresenal seems to be in eternal sold out, no clue when more come in or they just fan a batch in the warehouse and want to sell for, big surprised, more money.
I'll say this after owning underfolders, a wire folder AMD-65 and both solid and triangle AK 100 folders that by far and away the 100 series folders way to go for comfort for a folder. There is a little commie quirk you will have to deal with and if you have an optic mounted using the side rail, your AK-100 side folder just became a fixed stock. Something to think about if you can't decide on the extra cost of that type of folder.
As far as milled versus stamp, its like comparing a billet AR15 to a missed forged aluminum receiver. I find the milled more pleasant to shoot BUT if I had to carry one around, stamped all the way.

I have both and like stamped. my milled is a yugo underfolder and the weight is just akward.
I have quite a few ak's, but my favorite is my amd65. I love that gun and if shite hits the fan it is the first gun I am grabbing. I thought it was weird looking before I bought it but I absolutely love this gun.

this isnt mine but mine is the same.

My friend bought a couple of those FEG AMD-65s that TGI brought in about a 8 years ago for $400 each. Wish I wasn’t a broke college student at the time because they are a really nice, unique AK. Now I’m sitting here with no Hungarians in my AK collection and they’re all expensive AF.
