Defund all public education?

Is it time to defund all public education and let the silent majority teach their kids conservative and American values? What benefit does public education give us outside of indoctrination?

We continually rank near the bottom in almost every category. Public education has been a massive failure.

Teachers frequently have no supplies and classrooms have inadequate tech. We aren’t doing something right it seems and have fallen behind.

Would be the best thing to happen to this country in awhile. Education is impossible with teachers basically immobilized.

Totally agree - I still pay my property tax, but we homeschool already. Private schools aren't much better.

Teachers can’t even teach these kids, it’s impossible in most places. It would immediately improve education in this country overnight, and create local changes to actually help kids.

Public education in Democratically run areas has been a massive failure.
Call it what it is. Pubic education is relatively successful in some demographics and a complete failure in others. Why, is the question?

A great start would be to get the Fed Gov out of education. They don't belong there and the Dept of Ed is unconstitutional and should be eliminated.

For those of us that can pick up home school, its a great idea. However, there's a strong majority of kids that will become even bigger feral hood rats because their parents dindu nuffin, and do not plan to...

One of the biggest reasons stated by FL’s Gov DeSantis was that the “achievement gap” is widening significantly the longer kids are learning from home. As the father of two boys, one who has always made straight A’s and another who suddenly started making straight A’s and crushed the standardized assessment at the end of the year, I don’t doubt that his statement is true. The parents are responsible for their kids’ education. This is likely exacerbated when A) parents are able/forced to teach their own kids and 2) the class isn’t paced at the rate of the most challenged learner.
All that said, the kids that have to have school back in session to be taught and fed are the ones who are most likely not to go unless their parents are absolutely forced to.

At the time the Department of Education was started we were number one in the world in education.
It is now fiscal year 2019 an almost 100 billion dollar per year entity.
And we are nowhere close to number one in the world in education.
I am sure similar levels of wasted money can be tracked around the country.
Cut it all.

You wanna see a decent into public chaos unparalleled in US history? Close all public schools for a couple of years.

Jesus Christ no... Americans are stupid enough as it is.

If Antifa gets to pick and choose what to defund I should also.
Defund public schools.
Let the private industry take it over.

There are schools in subsaharan Africa whose pupils perform better than some US schools. It ain't the supplies.

This is complete bullshite. I attended the same schools that my children did. Now they've got tablets, laptops, and all kinds of crazy shite in the classrooms. When I was in school they still used green or black chalkboards with a teacher standing up there with a piece of chalk in the metal case.....actually TEACHING. Now they just put on a damn video while the teacher scrolls through FB. I can honestly say that I got a better education at the exact same high school than my kids did.

They probably actually care in some of those schools
Here you just join up to the union and show up 2/3rds of the year and sit there and you are making more than the median income of your district and get retirement.
