I came to ask a question about Evaporative coolers (swamp coolers). Did a tigerdroppings google search and the answers from 2-5 years ago are a resounding “no!”. Says it doesn’t work in high humidity. So that’s good to know.

So now my question instead is do you guys in Louisiana or gulf south have any recommendations for helping keep back patio area as cool as possible. This heat is absolutely miserable.

Any methods or recommendations at all. We have outdoor ceiling fans that aren’t the greatest. Any recs would be appreciated. Even if the answer is a “big arse fan”, please provide some info on type of fan. I’m all ears. I’m desperate.

TIA

My Dad uses a swamp cooler for his greenhouse. But then again, orchids like high humidity.

My buddy has one of those huge box fans under his carport like we used to have in the machine shop and it works reasonably well, but they aren’t cheap

I bought one of these about 4 years ago and it works great. For extreme hot and humid days days I add ice,"I have a commercial ice machine" or frozen water bottles to the water in the reservoir.

This sounds fantastic if it works like it says it does. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Sounds like it’s a modified swamp cooler to specifically work in high humidity in Louisiana. Quiet too ... under 55dB. I like it.

Thanks for the help .

The smallest unit says $900 and covers 600sqft. My back area is roughly 360sqft. So this may be perfect for me. The next level unit is $1500 and covers 1200sqft.

I'm live in St. Mary Parish about half way between Morgan City and New Iberia.

If you want to see the fan/cooler in action and want to visit, leave your contact info and I will give you directions to my home.

I have one from Cajun Koolers
I have the 4500-S so good for 1200 sq ft

I do the same and add ice to the water on hot days. I bought it in May and we use it all the time and absolutely love it!

How much are you willing to spend? I know a guy that put a 2.5 ton unit above his garage with duct work running to the patio. 4 nice vents blowing cold ac into the open air.

Does said visit come with a free beverage?

If it does, as I would assume it did, may just be easier if he just posted the directions and stocked up the bar.

Icybreeze

I saw this recently in an ad on Facebook. I’ve never used it or can comment on how good it is/isn’t but it’s cheaper than some of the other options thrown around. You can probably get it at Walmart which has a easy return policy.

Hell to the yes. I have a glass door refrigerator dedicated to beer 15' away from the fan. I keep it stocked with about 10 types of premium beer and few of the light beers although I don't understand why someone would drink light beer.

Corona, pacifica, shiner bock, samual adams, Yuenglin, Abita to name a few.

I will even feed you with my locally famous A-4-Fay. Its like etouffee but twice as good as what any body else makes.

I had it in my mind that they weren't worth it.

Till july fourth. My brother in law has a Hessaire model and I was impressed with the amount of air it moved and also that you could actually feel a temperature difference even though it rained and humidity was very high.

Update:
So I took the plunge and ordered the Cajun Kooling unit. It just got delivered. I’ll set it up and run it this weekend. And I’ll report back later with my findings and review.
