I was 10 and I remember thinking, "Hey, this isn't Police Academy". But seriously, I remember growing up in the cold war and I do remember having trouble sleeping after learning about countries having the power to destroy each other. I wish they had taught me about mutually assured destruction and the balance of power that was keeping the peace.

I must have been 6 when I watched it. Of course, it scared the shite out of me years after.

The scene where the teen girl and boy are getting fresh, only for her to pull out wisps of his hair, and then her reveal that she was wearing a wig, was quite touching.

What’s the one where the next morning the people that are still alive come out and there’s just pink dust where the people were. Is it this one? I was extremely young at the time but remember it being in TV throughout my childhood. I feel like the name was similar but maybe not

I was in 9th grade at that time.
To me Red Dawn(other than an accidental launch) seemed more of a possibility than nuclear war.

Blast from the past is with Brendan Fraser and Christopher Walken. It's a great, underrated comedy.

Some nightmares for a short time, but then we got over it.

The only reason this aired was because of Reagan and his defiance towards the Soviets.

Guess what? It worked.

Was in high school when it aired.

Watched it. Thought it was BS propaganda then. I knew about MAD already.

Special Bulletin and WarGames had a greater impact.

What was that movie back in the 80's that showed high school kids how easy they could became fanatical followers like 1930's German kids?

V?

That was a sci-fi version of “it could happen here” complete with scientists persecuted like Jews.

I know Millennials want to bust out their snarkiest edgelord routine at the laughable notion that they have any kind of collective resolve, but the Cold War was no fricking joke.

They scream at the sky at climate change and pretend that that's why the world will end, but there was a very real chance that the US and USSR could end up in a global thermonuclear war.

life was simpler during the Cold War.

Clear, defined enemy.

Fairly defined ROE.

Both sides had an interest in keeping their vassal states under control.

Middle East was a slow simmer instead of the conflagration it is now. The weakening of both the USA and the USSR allowed for the radicals to gain a much stronger foothold than the USSR wanted or expected (they backed Arafat because he kept things stirred up.

Watching it in hindsight, it seems to be an anti-Reagan scare tactic mixed in with low budget horror film.

Nailed it.

You sure aint. It never was my chore, I had 2 younger brothers for that, and it was the only chore that they were ever good for.
