Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield on Thursday said he believes shuttered schools present a greater public health issue than reopening schools.

"I'm of the point of view as a public health leader in this nation, that having the schools actually closed is a greater public health threat to the children than having the schools reopen," he said to Steve Clemons of The Hill.

"I think really people underestimate the public health consequences of having the schools closed on the kids," Redfield reportedly said. "I'm confident we can open these schools safely, work in partnership with the local jurisdictions

Fauci stated 2 weeks ago at a public hearing that he believes schools should open this fall.

The whole discourse over reopening schools always makes me think of this scene from Walk Hard:

Wait. So, are we listening to the CDC now? I've lost track.

I'm sure he's changed that position by now

Many people are simply imprisoning their children.

In a few years, there's going to be an explosion of mental health issues faced by these young pawns in a Political game.

Is he talking about mental health of the children, or medical health?

And yet every teacher I know is bitching and moaning about it. Go figure.

He's not wrong. You can't just keep kids locked inside a house forever. They need to socialize and to learn.

And the economy won't properly restart until kids can get back to school. If we want to ensure that the economy is down, we'll have depression, drug use, increases in drinking, suicides, and obesity to deal with.

Why do people make a claim like this but then don’t elaborate as to WHY keeping schools closed is a threat to public health.

It annoys the crap out of me when I’m reading an article.

It was the same with the article about banning Tiktok. The whole article kept saying how problematic Tiktok is and how much of a threat it is to national security, but never once elaborated as to specifically why it’s such a threat.

Don't they know home school kids are smarter? Why aren't we implementing a government training program for kids to turn them into killing machines to take over the world.

My kids have been going to wrestling and baseball practices for the last 2 months. No reason they can't sit in school with other kids if they're allowed to play sports with them.

But by all means, let's have people continue to bash the President for saying the exact same thing. Not, here, but elsewhere.

If you are over the age of 70, please consider not returning to school this fall.
