Ted Cruz Introducing Legislation To Hold City Officials Accountable For Damage and Injury

One of the most frustrating aspects of the rioting and looting we have witnessed in recent weeks is that Democrat governors and mayors have allowed it to happen.
These leaders put the interests of the mob ahead of law abiding citizens and business owners.

Ted Cruz has a plan to deal with this, going forward.
quote:
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz will “soon” introduce legislation that will hold city officials financially responsible for damaged property and injuries sustained from rioting.
“Sen. Cruz is working on a legislative proposal that will hold city officials financially responsible for the property damages and personal injuries that result from their decision to allow autonomous zones and/or order officers to stand down in the midst of rioting and looting,” A spokesperson for Cruz’s office told The Daily Caller.
Cruz has not set a firm date for when the legislation will be introduced, but his office tells the Caller that it will happen “soon.” The senator revealed his legislative plans on the “Hannity Show” last night while discussing the nationwide unrest in cities…
“Officials in these Democrat-run states are not exempt from that important duty, and they need to be held accountable for the destruction that has been allowed to occur.”

Won’t pass but it will be funny to watch Nutsy Pelosi and Schmuck Schumer scream about how unfair this is.

Shouldn't this be a local or state issue and not a federal one?
All these "small government conservatives" love expanding the power of the federal govt.

The idea here is that this should prevent cries of “Bail me out!” for not taking care of the problem.
Like how the governor of Minny is begging for money to deal with fire damage while ignoring the elephant in the room of why all that damage occurred.

Yes it should, but they will all have their hand out asking for federal funds. That makes it a federal issue.

The feds can just say no to bailing them out

How about this in response?

Something has to stop them from just arbitrarily not enforcing laws.

Yes it should be but the Governor's are making it Federal by asking for bailouts to fix the damages.

Every business owner in cities where rioting and damages have taken place should do what the business owners of CHOP. did. File a lawsuit against the city, mayor, city council and the governor for damages.

The problem is these cities are so broke they won’t be able to afford to fix anything.

not when you have the governor of Minnesota asking for federal disaster relief.
do yourself a favor and stop posting and get a job.

I would send them a bill for anything torn down, then replace it.

Ted Cruz seems to be the only republican with a spine.

First thing that little elf did was ask the Feds for 55 million. Hope Trump told them to shove it.

The Federal government can refuse any relief funds or financial assistance for cities and states that intentionally let their cities burn. Why should taxpayers in the law-abiding red areas pay to rebuild Seattle, Minneapolis, and Atlanta because the leadership that they elected let it get out of control?

Lol y’all want to hold cops accountable for their actions on the local level, but when politicians don’t do their job on the local level we need to stay out of it. Sounds about right.
