Shot my first one today (target practice). Summit 150 - low end model but I think I’m hooked.

Bought that wicked ridge invader with acudraw last year. Sighted that bad boy in at 50 yards in about 15 minutes and was in stand with it the next day. Had never shot one before. Not much to it. acudraw makes it easy to pullback.

Why are you worried about what this man is wanting to hunt with? Do we need to get the doll out so you can show us where the crossbow touched you?

Unless you hunt exclusively with a recurve, nobody can say a word about using a crossbow.

BTW, I use a compound but to even think about criticizing someone for hunting using legal means and is foolish.

OP, just wait a bit, I hear these new air cross”bow” guns are close to being legalized also for archery.

Meh. I think most of us just don't think it should be allowed in archery season. I don't REALLY have an issue with people hunting with ghey arse crossbows. I know people are always going to pick the (perceived) easy way. So, I fault the laws, and don't expect much from people themselves.

I grew up bowhunting only, every weekend, almost always both days, from Oct 15 to Jan 31. I guess I do resent how easy it has become for people both technologically, and legally. Crossbows, bait piles, game cameras, fences, etc. I'm not opposed to technology, but the whole point of bowhunting, for me anyway, is to go backwards and make things more challenging. That's why I have switched and started hunting with a longbow. I've been dabbling in it for a few years. I'm hoping to do some serious hunting this coming season.

Anyway, to each his own. I mean, I'LL always think less of people who use a crossbow in archery season, but you don't have to.

I love to bowhunt with a compound and sometimes I do hate to see rifle season roll around but I am more an advocate of hunting in general as a pastime. Litigation culture in the US has caused hunting opportunities to be more and more in demand and therefore expensive. Cryptic regulations that vary by county in a lot of states turns people off. Constant presence of anti hunting and animal rights activism turns people off.

The last thing we as hunters need to do is argue the finer points amongst ourselves AS LONG AS everyone is abiding by the current laws and limits.

I mostly agree. As long as people are following the laws, I'll just make fun of crossbows light-heartedly.

Lol, just messin with the OP (and anyone who takes me seriously)

I feel same way as Teague. I’ll poke fun at cross gun hunters but really don’t care either way what anyone hunts with.

There is obviously a tier of difficulty in the style and choice of weapon the hunter uses while harvesting an animal.
The recurve bow being the most difficult followed by the compound bow, crossbow, shotgun, muzzleloader, slug gun then rifle. Feel free to debate me in the order. I don’t think the order matters as much across the board as it does with what a person feels more comfortable with and in what situation they will be hunting in.
One could say stalking a deer with a shotgun is more difficult then bow hunting 12 feet up in a tree over a feeder 20 feet away. I personally find it difficult to hunt with someone next to me regardless of the weapon I’m using, does that count for something? Ever hunted with a kid?
Hunters need to rejoice together in our sport, not make fun of how their brothers choose to put food in the table. Unless you kill by spear or recurve then take a chill pill.
What’s next? Making fun of people who don’t brew their own beer and bake their own bread? Where does this end? Enjoy the sport. Take a kid hunting. Play by the rules of your state and to each their own.

I couldn’t agree with you more.

If everyone wants to get up in arms let’s talk what primitive/muzzleloader season has become. In line muzzle loaders that shoot 200 yards, .35 wheelens, .45-70 all with scopes. How many people shoot one of those but jump on crossbow hunters? I don’t own a crossbow so I don’t have a dog in the race but if it’s legal and allows someone to hunt go for it enjoy the experience and enjoy the hunt.

I get the overall sentiment, but let's not go overboard. Ninety-nine percent of us aren't relying on hunting for food. We eat the game, but don't rely on it. The grocery store is cheaper than deer hunting, if you start crunching the numbers.

I hunt to enjoy nature, and the CHALLENGE of taking game. There's nothing challenging about sitting in a box stand, over a corn pile, with a crossbow and waiting for a deer to walk by while you're watching YouTube videos on your phone.

Like I said, people can do what they want, as long as it's legal. But, I can't imagine wanting to use a crossbow, in archery season, as long as I'm physically capable of shooting a real bow. I think at SOME point we have to draw a line, not necessarily legally, but just within ourselves on what hunting should be. It's getting more and more like selecting a cow to butcher.

That's my final answer.
