Where would you guys recommend shopping if you wanted to spend about $300-$500 on saltwater fishing tackle to setup a couple tackle boxes? Soft plastics, jig heads, Carolina rigs, corks, spoons, spinners etc..
Bass Pro
Cabelas
Academy
Bowie Outfitters
Online?
I like shopping in person rather than online because im not sure on sizes of certain weights and hooks etc..
Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated!

Are we talking inshore such as reds and specs and only reds and specs?
If your talking about offshore (snapper, cobia etc) as well that’s not gonna go that far believe it or not.

I have found some good deals on lurenet.com I also registered with Rapala's website and from time to time find good deals there. Academy is my favorite in in regards to box stores, but we don't have them out here. When I am visiting family back home I usually visit it at least once.

Great point, should have specified, just inshore for reds and specs

Honestly I haven't really found much cheaper on tackle than Academy.

yep
basspro and cabelas have decent prices on sale items, but for day to day pricing, academy will be probably 10% cheaper than C/BP
just spot check a few items on the websites, and throw in a couple of online retailers too
i've ordered from tackle warehouse and tackle direct as well

Basically this. Academy is hard to beat on price and carries most of what you will be looking for.

Get what you can from here then get the rest locally. There is a locally owned place in Gonzales that has An awesome selection and he will order it for you if he doesn’t have it. Not as cheap as Academy though.

When they get some more offshore stuff, it’ll be a one stop shop. The prices aren’t academy low but if I have to pay $4 for a pack of matrix shad instead of $3.75 to support a good local shop that stocks some non standard stuff it’s worth it

I see a lot of replies saying Academy, and that would also be my choice as far as selection and price.
Although I did buy my last reel on-line from Dick's Sporting Goods since Academy had none in stock in their store or for on-line sales.

Puglia's sells somethings in bulk. Basically just a big box without the packaging. You just take the amount you want out of the box.
Posted on 6/11/20 at 5:14 pm to 225Tyga
Superior tackle all the way ! Maybe a nickel more than big box but great service / selection.

Superior Tackle on Siegen or Ascension Living in Gonzales. If they don't have it they'll get it for you

Puglia's has gotten a lot of my business over the years. I grew up and lived in the lower 9th from 52 until after high school in 70 and their grocery and sporting goods store was 3 blocks from my house on St. Claude between Caffin and Flood St. back in the day.
I went to school with both the owner's sons and graduated with the younger one who is now retired from the business the last time I asked about him. Good people.
