I learned something new today.

Apparently present day Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, Beauregard, and Allen Parishes comprised one massive parish, now referred to colloquially as "Imperial Calcasieu Parish."

Imperial Calcasieu was bigger than Delaware and Rhode Island in terms of area.

Fascinating.

Technically you're right. Although Calcasieu (or "Imperial Calcasieu") Parish was originally formed from St. Landry Parish, where Opelousas is located.

Since they're parishes, name them after saints who have gone on before us. Good Christian names like Matthew Parish, Mark Parish, Luke Parish, etc.

Y'all are missing a prime "Naming Rights" opportunity

We could solve our state's fiscal crisis by selling the rights to the highest bidder

I really like the sound of "Louisiana Hot Sauce Parish"

Can't have a Jeff Davis Eight if there's no Jeff Davis Parish.

Louisiana has bee around longer than the civil war. What was Jeff Davis parish named before?

This is actually a very good question. Most of the confederate statues were put up after 1900 by the white league and other such racists organizations..

They should just make up a Cajun archetype name. Alcide “ couyon “ Boudreaux Jr Parish or something.

I think it was part of another parish. Maybe Acadia or Calcasieu?

Haha...he became good friends with the goofy white neighbor though, so that suggestion will be quietly rejected.
