Drew’s world is the NFL. The entire league (even his own teammates) essentially went after him. Drew went from being universally liked to being hated. He is responding the way almost anyone in his situation would.

As sad as it is, the whole episode now tells you that most of the reason Brees was so damned likeable was because he places a HUGE premium on people liking him.
This might sound like a good thing. I mean, behaving in a way that makes people like you is certainly better than the opposite on the whole.
But, if it becomes your driving force, it basically turns you into a fraud with no ideas of your own.
Some people might go their whole life doing this without it ever being apparent. Alas, stuff like this exposes reality.
The reality is clear that Brees has no actual convictions. His convictions are not driven by principle but rather, a desire to get positive reactions from other people.
