The blackout with the ‘WTF did I do dread’ is the worst.

I got ya. I was a horrible alcoholic and always played with drugs throughout most of my twenties. It just got old man. Tired of the anxiety, the hopelessness and negative outlooks , losing jobs/friends/ etc... I'm 34 now. I'll make four years sober this father's day. I do miss drinking sometimes but not as much as I love how much better my life got without it. Good job, really awesome wife, nice house , and now a son that'll be two in July. I really hope you are as tired of it as I was and make the change. I wish you well.
Also : I did 90 days as well. At home of grace in vancleave, Ms. It seems like a long time but it's a small price to pay to save your life. Try to enjoy reading books and writing letters while you're there. It's prob a good time to go on a social media cleanse anyway. You couldn't have picked a better time for a time out from regular life.

Drugs and alcohol were great for me for a number of years but then I got on the wrong side of 30 and they weren't nearly as fun anymore. There was no final straw or rock bottom.
Not everyone who is an addict wakes up in a ditch. I still drink beers now and then but I get sleepy after about 3.

Pretty anxious about it because 90 days seems like a huge number.
If you focus on 1 day at a time it’ll be less intimidating.
I drank hard for 26 years.
My last days of drinking I had an 18 day bender. I had stopped eating dinner and just drank vodka instead. Woke up one morning with heavy DT symptoms and a nasty panic attack. Scared the crap out of me.
I went to AA the next day and haven’t picked up a drink since. Coming up on 4 years sober.

did you have a hard time getting rid of friends? Or not even friends just party buddies. I worry about that.

2 months ago I made 14 years sober and I was as sloppy 24/7 drunk. For me, the pain and misery and shame became worse than anything I could imagine. I asked for help and followed the suggestions of others. Realizing I couldn’t think my way out of my sickened thoughts was a big help as help. Good luck to you!

Oh yeah. The worst was waking up and your car was in the driveway but had no clue driving home or waking up at home but having no clue where the hell your car was.

if they're real friends they'll be supportive..getting sober is one of those situations where you can weed out the people who were never really friends to begin with.. the first thing i did was change my phone number.. then, i got married and my circle got really small...its not a bad thing. i made a lot of new friends that are more like minded , ya know? married w/ kids and careers.

Get rid of your phone. That and the knee surgery that kept me on the couch for 3 months was how I finally broke the the cycle

Did some binge-drinking in Florabama this weekend, might have been the last straw for me. Felt clinically depressed for a few days after

10 years I was a fricking degenerate gambler. Started when poker blew up and was all over tv. I pissed so much money away and put my family through so much shite. In 2013, I lost my money at the casino and ended up selling one of my guns so I wouldn’t be broke for two weeks.
At that point I said frick this. I accepted defeat and haven’t looked back. I might go to the casino maybe 3-4 times a year now, but every bill is paid beforehand and I only take what I can afford to lose.
I wish you the best in rehab, but you gotta say frick it. You gotta develop the strong enough will and desire to quit. If you’re sick and tired, then you can find it in you to walk away. Put your mind to it.

It was a three day hangover in 1988.
