Sure he can choose not to play. UT can also pull his scholarship. This guy can then take out student loans to finish his education like everyone else or he can drop out and become a statistic that he fighting against.
Or he can continue to play, go to class, get his education, go to the NFL potentially make more money than he will know what do with and use it towards causes to improve his communities he is “standing up for”. That is how he should be thinking about. He should be even more motivated to succeed personally so he can be a positive pillar in his community to uplift it. Instead he is will to throw all that away just to send an empty message. Dumb as frick.

I would seriously like to ask this young scholar a question:
What would your life be like if your ancestors had not been sold into slavery (by other black people) and forcibly relocated to America?

Can you imagine what this is doing to teams and locker rooms?

Hopefully he doesn’t take another snap. Hopefully he becomes toxic to the NFL

Texas will get this under control.
Or see their enrollment plummet.

How about we all quit football, cut cable, and stop buying tickets and merchandise.

That's fine. He is entitled to his opinion and his choice as whether or not he wants to play football.
But my question for him would be "what, specifically, do you want?" What specific, tangible change(s) are you looking to effect? Or to put it another way, if you are holding college football/UT "hostage" by not playing, then what is your "ransom"? If he's just choosing not to play because he subjectively feels his absence hurts college football then it's like a hunger strike. He's only hurting himself.
That aside, the degree of his narcissism is at best, misguided, and, at worst, absurd. The popularity of college football existed BEFORE he ever suited up for the university of Texas and it will exist AFTER he is done playing (ostensibly right now). Year after year the names and faces of the players in college football change. Yet, the support of the school/team remains. The reality the players don't understand, or perhaps just don't want to acknowledge is by and large, the fans of the schools cheer for the "uniform", not the individual players. For example, as much as we as LSU fans love Joe Burrow and hope nothing but the best for him in his future, we don't stop being die hard LSU fans simply because Burrow is no longer on the team. The passion in which we support the 2020 will be the same we showed in supporting the 2019 team....and the 2009 team....and (for those of us old enough)...the 1986, etc., etc. That's because we are LSU fans and understand that while the individual players, coaches, etc, will come and go, the one constant through it all is the university.
Again, he is free to make whatever choice he wants. And my opinion as to whether or not I agree with that choice is wholly irrelevant to his decision. But he's hurting himself (though the loss of opportunities---both on and off the field) than he is college football or the university of Texas

"Would you like fries with that?"
What a dumbass.

Wish this would become a trend in pro sports

So when this guy doesn't get drafted will he claim racism?
Posted on 6/4/20 at 9:38 am to EKG
That’s a bold strategy Cotton. Lets see how it works out for him.
