After seeing The Dark Knight last night, it goes to show DC Comics characters are far better transcribed onto the big screen.

The only way that Marvel could ever top the brilliance in creating a movie version of a comic hero is to stay true to the characters that they write about.

I.E. if they want to be successeful and reap the rewards that just two Batman movies have done in recent years, they should better hope that the Wolverine Movie be as dark and creative as the Batman Movies--not the Tim Burton ones either--which in their era were pretty good too.

Wolverine and Daredevil had the potential to be really good Comic book movies. Daredevil, as dark as the comic was, was one of the most absolutely horrible movies of our time. And I have a feeling that Wolverine will be too. And what a great character Wolverine is.

i don't think it's necessarily due to which puts out characters better for movies, i think dc has had better directors for its movies.

I'll respectfully disagree with you on that. I truly believe it has more to do with the writers of the screen adapations then the actual directors.

Marvel has had some pretty good directors for their movies. Ang Lee is a tremendous director. Brian Singer, not bad either...but the story lines that they had to deal with were horrible. And they had to make due with what was given to them.

Take for example the Spiderman Series, great entertaining movie for with all the CGI and bright colors, but the storylines aren't all that interesting.

For an adult that grew up reading comic books, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are far superior to the Spiderman franchise, The X-Men franchise, and now even the two failed Incredible Hulk movies. All had great potential in being great movies.

When you hear people discuss The Dark Knight, you hear them talk about the characters, the storyline, and then the effects...not the other way around.

The marvel movie folks figured out how to do this right first...drop the camp and take the subject matter serious. Inescapable fact...First X-Men is an example. With that said, no question TDK takes the whole thing to a new level.

The new Hulk is a failure? Didn't think so. You talking creatively or financially? Just axin'

I think the new Incredible Hulk will do just what Batman Begins did. It sucked in theaters because people were afraid to go see it because of how bad the last in the series was. When Begins came out on DVD ppl saw it and realized how good it was and so the DVD sold tons. Given Batman Begins is way better than the new Incredible Hulk, Hulk is still in the top 5 of Marvel Comic movies made in my opinion.

As far as DC better than Marvel. Marvel has found a superhero that could compete with Batman if they play it right and that is Iron Man. If they follow the Iron Man comics and play it right, we could see an Iron Man sequel in the ball park of the The Dark Knight. You people have to remember that Iron Man still brought in over $100 mil more nationwide than Begins and I think both are on just about an equal playing field as far as how good the movies were.

And does anyone else find it funny that the two superheroes that look to be the best movie hits are two superheroes with no true superpowers (Batman and Iron Man)

The Marvel superhero movies have dominated the DC movies in recent years. DC has set the standard with the last two Batman's, but Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Iron Man have all dominated in the past.

oh yeah, and what about the timeless 'Super Girl'. That's in everyone movie collection no doubt and also shows how DC Comics characters are far better transcribed onto the big screen.

whaaaaattt? How can you say such a thing! Don't you remember the epic 'Steel' starring Shaquille O'Neal!!! If that doesn't show you that DC Comics characters are far better transcribed onto the big screen than Marvel than NOTHING will.

check yourself

i agree with this. iron man is far superior than all the comic book movies other than dark knight. way better than batman begins IMO.

TulaneTigerFan, how would you rank 'The Return of Swamp Thing' (DC) compared to Iron Man (Marvel)? Did you think Swamp Thing was far better transcribed onto the big screen in the sequel or the first Swamp Thing?

The movies should stick closer to the comics. Rememebr the campy batman movies which seemed to want to follow the old tv series? Compare those to the 2 recent ones which stick closer to the comics. Same character can either be good or a suckfest.

I think the marvel charaters are better developed than DC, but you can't just use the movies to determine that. I always thought the marvel comics characters had more human failings and characteristics than the DC characters.

Not to rain on anybodies' premise parade but Brian Singer directed for both the Marvel and DC franchises.

Well, I think you grossly underrate the first two Spider-man movies, which did have interesting plots and character studies. And outside of the Batman franchise, DC characters haven’t exactly done well on the big screen. Or I must have missed out on the new Wonder Woman movie.

Some Marvel has worked, some hasn’t. X-Men and Spiderman before part three in both cases were quite good. The Hulk I’m kind of indifferent towards. Ghost Rider was awful.

On the flipside, outside of Batman, where’s the great DC comic movie? I’m hoping The Watchmen will be what I hope it will be, but they don’t really fit in the DC universe anyway.

I think it’s a wash, with Marvel slightly ahead. But you will note, all of its successful stories are 20-30 years old.

Marvel wins in any contest versus DC because Marvel is fricking Marvel and DC is fricking DC.
Marvel>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DC
(Though TDK was aweaome.)

I might just be an old fogie, but I thought the first two Superman movies were pretty good and well received. The most recent one was decent, but not great.
