My mutt is now 14. Damn, seems just like yesterday when it was 12 years ago I posted on TD the pics of him when I adopted him. Anyway, his hips are getting a little weak.
How can I strengthen them? Muscle is muscle. Is hydrotherapy a good way to do it? Any exercises recommended?

Aspirin can help ease the dog's pain.
Ask a vet for the recommended dosage

Would you try and strengthen your grandma’s 98 year old legs?

Adequan helps a lot.
Put our 13 1/2 year old golden on it a few weeks ago and his hips have improved. Used it on our Labrador years ago and she responded well to it as well.

Swimming. Less stress on joints helps maintain muscle mass. Don’t give aspirin. Get a prescription nsaid assuming your pup has good liver and kidney function.

Hydrotherapy worked for our 12 year old dog with arthritis.

No pain or discomfort. I just notice them getting a little weaker.

Nah, I think deadlifts would be better to strengthen weak hips.

Try C-Complex if you can find it.

Talk to your vet to see if there are underlying issues like arthritis. My dog was on anti inflammatories and cosequin chews the last few years.
Regarding hydrotherapy, I haven’t tried this but I’ve seen online where you can take a bathtub full of water, a dog life vest with a handle strap, and a broom stick that goes through that strap and on top of the tub and basically suspend your dog in water over the tub. I know my dog’s natural instinct to dog paddle always kicked in when she was in water, even when I was holding her.

Mix some creatine into the peanut butter before applying it to your sack

I trick my senior dog into running my randomly getting up and yelling squirrel. She's 13 and fat but she'll get up and run to see a squirrel.

rimadyl . Ask your vet for rx based on weight. They can take it everyday

I would try something for joints but seeing a vet wouldn’t hurt
There’s a vet in Gonzales that does the laser treatment for arthritis, should be able to find via google, a coworker used them for a cat & said difference was remarkable
