But while police abuse and violence have the potential to harm anyone, as with virtually all of the other shortcomings of the criminal justice system, it disproportionately harms black people. Cops may shoot and kill twice as many white people as black, but there about six times as many white people as black people in the United States. Proportionally, black people are much more likely to be shot and killed by cops.

This is a disingenuous by whoever wrote it and anyone who uses it to further their argument lacks a profound ability to analyze data. When you break down violent crime and thus police encounters it plain becomes clear that there should be an astronomically higher rate. Consider this, AA’s make up ~13% of the population and thus you could submit that AA males make up ~6.5%. So 6.5% of the population commit greater than 50% of al violent crimes in the United States.

Since you like stats so much. Black people also make up what 15 pct of the population and commit 50 pct of the crime. I would say that the proportions you see directly relate to the amount of times the particular races are involved with the police.

You know, math and all.

Not really “much more likely.” Black men and boys are .061% more likely to be shot by police (100 out of 100,000 versus 39 out of 100,000) than white men and boys. That’s not relative but the absolute percentage difference.
