What are your thoughts on a well trained dog going on a walk around the neighborhood without a leash?

Truthfully, this doesn't bother me and honestly I'm impressed by some of them. But they do irk my dog (who is jealous bc he's on a leash) and I just don't know why you'd do it since walking your dog on a leash is easy and more responsible.

We have a few neighbors that walk their golden retrievers without a leash- I’m impressed.
I tell my dog that’s the way it should be- he just lol’s

Absolutely HATE HATE HATE this.

No matter what you think, it is still a dog. It can get startled, disobey, see another dog/cat/animal, run into traffic, run to another dog.

If you are in a fenced in area or dog park fine. If you are not, it should be on a leash no matter how well trained.

I have thoughts on this. I think people who walk their well trained dogs off leash have just never owned a dog that is aggressive towards other dogs. I don’t blame them and some of their dogs are extremely well behaved and I’m impressed, I used to be one of those people actually.

My dog though, he’s super calm and well behaved in every situation, little kids, babies, in a Home Depot etc... but he HATES other dogs and will attack them if they come up to him. He’s a rescue and I think the people who had him before us never showed him another dog until we got him at 2 yrs old. We did lots of training and socializing, he’s well behaved now but still will fight any dog he can. The trainers told us it’s probably anxiety as much as aggression, he never learned as a puppy how to interact with any other creatures than humans so his natural instinct is to show them he’s tough...

So while your dog might be friendly and well behaved so you let it run around your front yard with your kid, just know that if your kid runs up to my dog he will wag his tail, play and lick them in the face.

If your dog comes up then you better call Michael Vick because it is on and popping
