Holy frick if they instituted mandatory service for individuals.... Canada would have a larger population.

I agree with you but I doubt she does...
Maybe, maybe not. I imagine Memorial Day is a lot different for her than it is for me.

No one cares anymore, we need the draft again or everyone should do two years like in Israel, then everyone would be invested again
I have no idea if you ever served but I can't imagine what it would have been like if my unit had had a bunch of 18-19 year olds that didn't choose to be there. It is one thing when you are in the midst of a huge conventional war and need cannon fodder but very different in the modern professional military.

As a dad, seeing little kids visit their dad's grave really kicks me in the gut.

I mean not supposed to be all happy and BBQ's
It's about BOTH. We BBQ and laugh and play and enjoy life in America thanks to these fallen heros.
But the first thing I'll do tomorrow is make my way to the LSU Parade Ground to pay my respects to fallen friend, rugby teammate, and American Hero.
Cpl Nathan Brock "Chuck Norris" Carse.

He moved to Louisiana, where he received his master's degree in civil engineering/environmental science from Louisiana State University. He played rugby, which became his favorite sport at that time. He then worked at All South Engineering Consultants, which involved managing the reconstruction of levies and sewer systems in Louisiana. He fulfilled a long desire to serve his country when he joined the Army and was a combat engineer.

Thank you to the real heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. We thank you and honor you today. Prayers and peace to your families.

I work every Memorial Day because I have the freedom to do so. Can’t think of a better way to honor our Vets.

You know, not to diminish Memorial Day or the sacrifices of those who died for this country in any way, but I can’t help but find it really distasteful to make a public showing of people’s very real and personal grief so that I and everyone else can have our heart strings tugged at. It seems just a bit selfish and invasive to immerse myself in pictures of people grieving, not really for an American hero, but a very important loved one in their life who’s been taken from them. It just seems like really private moments that I am intruding upon. Again, this is not to not appreciate their sacrifices in the least, but rather I can’t help but think we shouldn’t make a spectacle of these moments. They’re really personal and private moments, not public.

would it be a bad thing?
I bet our prison system would have a fraction of the population.
and SJW would get a taste of real life
