A study of 96,000 hospitalized coronavirus patients on six continents found that those who received an antimalarial drug promoted by President Trump as a “game changer” in the fight against the virus had a significantly higher risk of death compared with those who did not.

People treated with hydroxychloroquine, or the closely related drug chloroquine, were also more likely to develop a type of irregular heart rhythm, or arrhythmia, that can lead to sudden cardiac death, it concluded.

The study, published Friday in the medical journal the Lancet, is the largest analysis to date of the risks and benefits of treating covid-19 patients with antimalarial drugs. It is based on a retrospective analysis of medical records, not a controlled study in which patients are divided randomly into treatment groups — a method considered the gold standard of medicine. But the sheer size of the study was convincing to some scientists.

quote:

Peter Lurie, a former top FDA official who now heads the Center for Science in the Public Interest, called the report “another nail in the coffin for hydroxychloroquine — this time from the largest study ever.”

Hopefully now we can focus more on something that works.

tigerinDC09: They used it (the dossier) for a Carter Page FISA. The part they used has been largely verified.

LINK

tigerinDC09: I'm saying that in this instance, there is publicly available information that indicates that the FISA application was well founded.

LINK

tigerinDC09: Steele's sources provided reliable information re:Carter Page that wasn't available via other public sources. It has now been confirmed. Page originally denied any contact, but now says he may have "spoken briefly" with them. This bolsters the reliability Steele's sources does it not?

You ain't bright.

By the way. When did the left suddenly become very interested in the governments dictating to doctors how they may choose to treat their patients?

You're pathetic

this is a known side effect... potential QT prolongation... this is not a shocking new development with the drug.

He pulled it from WaPo but yep. You're correct.

It's also a rehash of a prior story.

They literally didn't compensate for beginning condition.

In other words, they compared the results of people who used the drug with those who don't WITHOUT compensating for the fact that people who were prescribed the drug were in WORSE condition at the start.

Which, of course, makes sense because people doing fine without the drug are less likely to get it prescribed.

Basically, DC is pathetic and stupid and a liar...……..again

Cool story

From your non-link

quote:

The new study’s findings cannot necessarily be extrapolated to people with mild illness at home or those, like Trump, who are taking the antimalarials as a prophylactic

quote:

A large study of health-care workers that examines the use of hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure against covid-19 is in the works, but no results have been released.

And again, as I already pointed out. That analysis did NOT control for INITIAL condition...……...which is honestly, such an obvious oversight that you can't even call it an error.
