Most places in Port Allen are only open for lunch other than fast food.

went last week and picked up some beef jerky, jalapeno smoked pork sausage, stuffed duck breasts, and some hamburger patties.

I have only tried the jerky so far, and it was good. Much better than Jacob's in Reserve, and i prefer it to the place in between Houma and Thib.

el T....

do yourself a favor and order some jerky from this place

LINK

There's one between dallas and shreveport along I-20... I always stop there when I'm up there and usually order a lb. every month... it's dry, spicy and one piece will last about 10 minutes. I'm ordering some next week.

Their Boudin Balls are nothing compared to Billys... Cracklins are pretty good though.

It's both. It's a big wooden building, that has wooden editions. Look for a packed parking lot.

loved the texture and cut, but found them to be too bland.

Ronnies on Florida Blvd in BR has great seasoned cracklins with a lot of meat on them and his boudin is good as well.

He originated in Opelousas.

Try out that place in Watson, they are pretty good - great sausage as well. Went to a wedding they catered and the food rocked!

Bergeron's has the best plate lunches that I have found in all of Baton Rouge. This includes quality, quantity and price. It is actually quicker to hop across the bridge than drive around BR traffic.

My fav is Monday's stuff pork chop, cheesy mashed potatoes and green beans. My other favs are Wednesday's ribs, Thursday's seafood stuffed chicken, and Friday's 4something special(fried catfish topped w/shrimp fett. sauce)

I do not like the boudin there though. Not far enough West. But, the stuffed meats and sausage are pretty damn good.
