quote:

“I’m 100 percent certain it wasn’t food poisoning,” he said on 1280 The Zone in Utah. “Or, it wasn’t that pizza.”

Fite also said he delivered it, along with one other person, poking more holes in the story.

“The crap story the guy said, that there was five people, there was two of us — and I didn’t even have that many people working at the time at the store — but there was two of us,” Fite said.

Jordan was the only person in the room who ate the pizza. Director Jason Hehir said Jordan hadn’t eaten dinner and wouldn’t let anybody else eat any of the pizza.

Just because it wasn't deliberately "poisoned" doesn't mean it didn't make MJ sick.

Jordan ordering Pizza Hut...it's one of the larger stains on his image the documentary left.

Whole lotta weirdness about the story

5 guys delivering a pizza to the hotel as if they were absolutely certain it was for MJ or another player (i guess someone from hotel room service could’ve tipped them off but still seems far fetched)

MJ crushing a whole pizza the night before a finals game. Players eat like shite or whatever they want on reg season roadtrips but everyone’s in the zone come playoff time and there’s more time to eat right versus city and hotel hopping during back to backs. I’ve heard stories of people eating crazy pregame meals but a guy as locked in and fiercely competitive as MJ smashing a whole pizza the night before a game doesn’t seem like an MJ thing.

And why settle for some random pizza? They couldn’t send an intern or trainer into the city for some McDonald’s or something? I know they were staying on the outskirts and its fricking mormonville out there but they could’ve found SOMETHING less sketchy.

Im thinking it’s possible just got carried away playing cards with the guys and just got hammered or something THEN smashed a whole pizza and his body was like “hol’ up there GOAT”

Isn't it plausible that when they got to the hotel with the pizza and told a staff member that they were delivering it to that particular room, that a few of the guys working at the hotel tagged along to hopefully get to see Mike?

The only question for me is how did they know it was being ordered for Michael Jordan?

MJ didn't call himself to order it (at least according to the film). I can't imagine his groupees would have told the pizza place they were ordering for Jordan or even used his credit card to pay (if they even pre-paid with a card, which wasn't that common in 1997). The only way I could see the place knowing it was for MJ is if the hotel made the call rather than one of the groupees.

That aside, it's hard to imagine MJ would lie in THAT situation to cover up nefarious activity. The guy had played in a ton of playoff and finals game before that one and seemingly had no history of doing something the night before to significantly impair his physical ability to play in a game. Sure, I guess he could have gone out drinking, doing drugs, or both. But that doesn't seem likely. First, if he did do such it undoubtedly wouldn't have been the first time he did so before a finals game. Yet, he never impaired himself to that extent before a game NOR does he seems like the kind of guy to take such a risk in light of his competitiveness. Athletes aren't like us. They'll go out drinking, doing drugs, women etc until the wee hours of the morning before a game. But they'll generally know when to stop to prevent it from affecting their play.

Second, Jordan never seems to have truly gotten over the fact Pippen sat out much of Game 7 of the 1990 Eastern conf. finals with a headache. I doubt he would willing do anything to put himself in a position where he couldn't play in a Finals game.

Third, Salt Lake City might be the most BORING city in the NBA. Even if he wanted to go out on the town and tear it up, where in the hell would he go?

Something I didn’t understand about the story, how would they even know it was Jordan whom it was being delivered to.

I seriously doubt Jordan was calling restaurants usiing his real name “Michael Jordan”

Straight up y’all it doesn’t make any sense for that pizza place to deliberately poison Michael Jordan: it’s criminal, it definitely renders them vulnerable for a civil suit as well not to mention damage to their business reputation because Michael Jordan got sick off their pizza and they poisoned it. Straight up I think it was just the perfect storm of a unwittingly defective pizza and Jordan got sick because it exacerbated all the partying and shite he normally does the night before games. The odds for this are pretty bad unless the entire Salt Lake City community conspired to ensure this happened, which is quite unreasonable.
