With one of the strongest college football programs in the country, why does LSU still only have 1 Heisman Trophy winner?
Dorsey should have won last year. He was more than deserving. Naturally, USC and Ohio St. have the most.

JR would have been this guy his senior year. That was definitely our chance.

Yeah, it's obviously gonna take a really really good offensive player, but I think it's also gonna take some less biased votes. That's what pisses me off so much.

a QB to put up huge numbers, too many good backs and receivers at a time for LSU to rely on one guy at those 2 positions

LSU usually has their offensive numbers split up between several backs and receivers. And outside of JR, hasnt had a QB to put up the 3,000+ yards 30+ TD's that is usually needed.

JR would have been hyped up quite a bit in 2007 to win it.

Establish a LSU-New York or LSU-Los Angeles campus that also has a football team.

You might as well tack up another one for Florida this year. The media has a man crush on Tebow.

It's simple: one of our players will need to get the most heisman votes, then LSU will have a heisman.

I'd much rather have an MNC than 100 heismans.

Maybe if Dorsey didn't get chopped by Chaz and he would have had to bitch slapped Tebow in some obivious fashion then I think he would have had a shot.

JR would have been the guy. If he would have returned he would have been a favorite from day one and could have won it.

Oh good Lord...I loved watching #72 as much as anybody, but with his injury last year he (arguably) wasn't even the best DT in the nation, let alone the best player.

LSU hasn't had a truly Heisman-worthy player since Tommy Casanova. Others were good, Tommy was great.

No he wasn't, and I almost included him, too.

Thing with Kevin is he played all 4 seasons. Yes, he racked up the yards, etc., but he did so over 41 games. Herschel Walker ran for 700 yards more and he did so in 8 fewer games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a lot of the time I see Heisman trophy winners as a great athlete on a mediocre team. That's why they stand out so much. We have so much talent on both sides and so much depth, that no one player stands out enough to get noticed by the national media. We also play in a really tough conference that makes it hard to rack up stats. That's just my opinion, though.

Also, awarding Heismans to guys on losing teams went out of style with Paul Hornung, eh?
Maybe Jimmy Clausen can bring in back in style.

Seriously, what LSU needs to win a Heisman is a slight drop in the overall talent of our offensive skill players, primarily running back. If only one of our RBs were really great, then that guy could get the number of carries needed to rack up the huge numbers that get Heisman hype.

As for Tebow, UF should hope he doesn't win another Heisman. If he does, that means he'll be carrying the entire load once again which will likely mean another missed opportunity for a National Championship for the Gators. Their best shot is for a RB (like Moody) to take the rushing load off Tebow, and he will likely not be graced with only the second second Heisman in history without the shocking rushing numbers he posted last year.

JR could have had a shot at it in '07, but only if our running game was a bit weaker leading us to do a lot more passing. Against the quality of defenses we face in the SEC, it's hard for a balanced offensive attack to produce any one player with Heisman-caliber numbers. Witness that the SEC has produced just 4 Heisman winners in the last 36 years: Hershel Walker & Bo Jackson (from not exactly the picture of modern "balanced" offenses), Danny Wuerffel (somewhat balanced on paper, but totally a classic SOS "pass-happy" attack), and Tim Tebow (whose offense was balanced on the rush/pass scale, except that he did both the rushing and the passing). Not even Peyton Manning could manage a Heisman (though he should have) in a fairly balanced offense against SEC competition, and JaMarcus couldn't even get an invite to New York (only #1 pick QB from a BCS school to never get invited since Bledsoe 15 years ago).

In my opinion, a Heisman-winning performance from any individual offensive player is most likely going to bode ill for an SEC team with National Championship aspirations. It would take a truly rare specimen to be able to dominate that completely in a consistently successful offense in this league.
