Anyone remember cane cutter boats, late 70’s early 80’s.
I’m currently searching for a new project. I want to restore one similar to this. Having a hard time finding one available.

I don't know about that brand specifically, but I see boats similar to that design for sale all the time.

But why??
I’m going to restore it for someone... he used to take me fishing all the time in a Cane Cutter... countless days fishing together.
I’m sure he reads this board, so can’t go to much into the “why”.

Member a place close to the square in Bastrop that sold them. They were the Cajun boat before Cajun boats and made in La I think. Dad had a 15’ & 17’ ouachita like that with stick steering, they didn’t handle rough water well.

That place also carried Terry Bass boats. My pops had a green and white one I grew up fishing in

Better stock up on grey and/or blue jump suites and Velcro shoes, baw.

Wasn't Cajun made in Winnsboro. Think they shut down early 90's.

Yep
I always wanted one of those TERRY bass boats with glitter on the gunnels and white hull.
GatorBay is still made in Benton.

Tax incentives from Florida and North Carolina all but destroyed boat manufacturing in Louisiana.

This one wasn't dad's but it was identical, motor and all. She was a beast

My dad bought us one in the early 90's, an all brown terrybass with 40 Johnson which had a shear pin prop shaft and a scored cyl. I polished that thing with a whole can of Pledge and thought I had something. It's run good for a little while until the bad cyl. plug got fouled.

That was the factory dealership. They were built in Bastrop.
I’ve considered picking up an old Ouachita or Terry. Really would love to get my hands on a and Cutter though.

I’ll fall on the side of poor management and ownership. Cajun folded mid 90’s but were on cod for years and couldn’t/wouldn’t bulk buy. They were buying resins by the bucket when everyone else was buying tank car loads.
Skeeter bit the dust about the same time as did venture in Vivian.
I’m singing that Alan Jackson song in my head as I type this out:)

A quick search of Facebook market place shows a 1978 model terry for sale in Natchez

The only place you're going to find one is beside a house or in a field, they're just not worth anything anymore

Yeah. I’ve been looking. Was hoping to get lucky here.
I can replace stringers and do glass work. They are great fishing boats for places like the cutoff, lake bistineau and the ouachita river.

I learned to ski behind one that had a Johnson 65 (console boat)
